uhhhhhhhhhh casual games and consoles can still be quality. and im not talking about non gamers. casuals are gamers. they're just casual.

I'm not saying they can't. I'm saying that they've had a large audience of fans long before they got more casual players interested.

Well the NES was a "underpowered" gaming console that brought in mass audiences (after the initial video game crash) by having flagship mainstream games like, uh, Mario. Same goes for the "underpowered" original Game Boy. In fact, everytime Nintendo tried to make a more "hardcore" platform, the GCN and even the WiiU (which ditched what made the Wii "casual"), for example, things did not go as well as when they made something more "casual" like the Game Boy and the Wii.

that large audience has always had a shit load of casuals in it lol. super mario bros was an arcade game. anyone could play it if they saw the machine in public

It's always had core gamers in as well. I'm not saying they don't appeal to casual gamers, I'm saying that's not all they do.

acting like nintendo hasnt always appealed to casuals just seems to be revisionist history

its what they do best, its what they do the most. hardcore gamers have realized this and migrated toward ps4, xbox, and overwhelmingly PC

Casual gamers are the ones playing all the games that never come to Nintendo.

It is since the Wii, before that I think most of their audience was still "hardcore gamers" and I'm not sure they're the best at appealing to casual gamers anymore which is part of what I've been saying. I think most of those "casual gamers" have moved on to a PS4/Xbox and are playing COD or Uncharted. I don't think the Switch will work like the Wii. I think they're chasing an audience that isn't there any more and by doing so they have alienated a lot of their older fans who like you said, are sticking to PS/Xbox/PC.

n64, gameboy, gba, ds, 3ds, gamecube, all extremely casual friendly devices with many casual, family oriented games. that was one of the downfalls of the wii u, yes, driving casuals away from nintendo. from where im standing, the switch seems to have a lot to offer people who want a fun, laid back gaming experience. the switch doesnt have to work like the wii. it will work like the switch.

I still think Nintendo lost a large amount of sales from the Wii U name being confusing

How many of them do you think will buy the Switch? Not trying to be snarky, genuine question, ha. I know huge Nintendo fans who have no interest in SMR and also know people who bought that game who've never owned a Nintendo console, ha.

Throughout. I think they'll sell as many as they make at launch. I'm just unsure how the thing will sell in the long run. Maybe the Wii U was an anomaly because of the name thing, idk.

i think "the long run" is something nintendo is struggling at currently, yeah, so itll be interesting to see what they do with the switch to remedy that

Started playing Watch Dogs 2 today. Soundtrack is so good. Been really enjoying it, and am actually having a ton of fun doing the side missions.
