Like I said, I think many just have really pretentious outlooks on where gaming consoles should be because of how quickly technology is moving along. Consumers want more and statistically, many expectations are unreasonable. I think the switch isn't mindblowing, it isn't a game changer, but it's a unique and different take that we haven't seen before. Not buying at launch, but it looks exactly like what a Nintendo gaming console is supposed to be. Fun. All the debate about chat/online play/accessories should never dismantle someone's gaming experience.

Edit: I mean if you don't think playing Mario Odyssey would be amazing on that console then you either don't find Mario 64 fun which is one of the best games ever, or you simply don't wanna admit that the Switch is gonna please plenty of casual gamers who aren't into competitive gaming like on the PS and Xbox systems.

 

I don't think people wanting a good amount of interesting games and decent prices for controllers is pretentious. I also don't think it seems that unique or different, it looks like it's just doing what the Wii and Wii U did but a step up and based on my experiences with motion controls in the past, a lot of those games do not look like fun to me. Also online chat/online play and the price of accessories are all absolutely important things that could affect someone's experience. I think Mario Kart or Smash would be a lot of fun to play online but I've never bothered because Nintendo's online has always been garbage. One of my favourite things about the PS4 is voice chat so I can talk to friends while we're playing games, whether we're playing the same game together or not. Accessory wise, when I get one, I'm going to want to get a pro controller too, I'm not really interested in playing with the joycons so that bumps up the price already considerably and to play with other people locally which someone rightly said is one of the best things about Nintendo consoles/games, I'd need to buy more controllers.

 

I feel like some of those reviews must have been inflated because it's a MGS game, it doesn't seem like a game that's really that highly regarded. Although maybe that's just what I've seen.

 

I love MGSV. I also wasn't a huge fan of any other MGS.

Edit: Actually I liked Peace Walker a fair amount but that might be because of how much I played it since it was one of the only psp games I had.

 

I love the first four MGS games but I couldn't even be bothered to finish V.

 

It's pretentious to want a gaming system have a good library or good specs?

Sure Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda would be fun l, but they'll be gimped by underpowered specs.

Like Zelda would be dope to play at 60fps 1080p, apparently it's been demoing framey on the switch but hopefully that's dev build stuff.

This is also a system that is releasing in 2017 priced at the same level as xbones and ps4s while having siginifcantly less power than 4 year old systems.

The ardent defense of nintendo here is baffling to me. No one is denying their IPs are good, but everything else is a mess imo.

 

"Good specs" is so fucking relative. For what the Swich is, a portable gaming system that also hooks up to a TV (or the other way around), it has good specs. The whole "not enough power" debate is one that can held about consoles in general, but it's a useless debate.

 

Like the gameplay is the best it's been in V. But the missions are really repetitive and uninteresting.

Mother Base management is kind of cool I suppose. But I've never been more bored in a Metal Gear game the pacing feels utterly off.

And I couldn't care less about mobile gaming, but if we are going talk about it's mobility, that battery is awful.

This is pretty much the reason I liked it so much more. I didn't really care about the story of the other games and the gameplay was bad. I actually liked the gameplay in V so much I didn't mind how repetitive the missions were. With how they discourage using the same methods, I always found myself experimenting in weird and fun ways.

 

It's true though, a Xbox One is shit too compared to a good PC, the whole discussion is useless at that point

 

And the minimization of our gripes smacks of fanboyism to me. -shrug-


Like I don't see how someone can say go buy a PC if you care about specs. As if it's delusional to want games to perform as well as possible.

i dont give a shit how a game runs if its playable. oh no it doesnt run at 60fps, im not gonna fucking care as long as it runs smooth. if a game runs at 30 and its a good game i dont give a shit

If you want a game to "perform as good as possible" you should stay away from consoles and handhelds. The problem is, if everyone did that, there would be no video game industry as we know it.

 

I only play video games to play competitively it seems. All I ever do is play the ranked mode in games or just multiplayer in general.

I get bored with stories fast.

People certainly have different preferences out of what they want in a gaming platform yes.
