Another non-presidential election, another win for Conservatives.

Crazy racist bigoted lady wins the Wisconsin SC seat. Sigh.

While I am certainly more critical of gun control than most leftists, I think most people agree that allowing gun victims to sue manufacturers is an absurd proposition (especially from a politician who so recently bashed Obama for being too hard on guns). If a firearm malfunctions and that causes a death, you have every right to recover from that manufacturer. But allowing persons to sue based on purposeful usage by shooters would literally make firearms financially unfeasible to produce in any form. It's a dumb fucking position and a sleazy and hollow one at that.

The whole idea behind it is in theory it would push gun manufacturers to start lobbying for more regulations and whatnot on guns to protect themselves financially.

As a leftist, I've expressed my support for certain gun rights in the past and agree that gun manufacturers shouldn't be held accountable for the deaths at the hands of users. The same goes for Porsche shouldn't be held accountable for Paul Walker's death.

Look at you, prioritizing the rights of a German automotive empire over the families of dead movie stars. You disgust me.

Also, don't forget he was driving under the influence. Have to get at Anheuser Busch as well.

I agree with the fact that allowing gun victims to sue manufacturers is ridiculous and I really do not understand it. With that logic, shouldn't we be suing car manufacturers when they hit and kill a person? Or if someone gets stabbed. let's sue the manufacturer of the knife. The whole stance just doesn't make sense to me.

I don't mean to beat up on the cause of gun control (which I believe in) but this is pretty much the definition of a frivolous lawsuit.

Again, the idea is that if gun makers know they'd be financially liable for people using their products in an unlawful way, they'd be more likely to throw their lobbying weight and money behind laws and regulations that are intended to reduce gun violence. Storage requirements, crackdowns on 2nd hand dealers, safety technology, etc. Whether that would actually work or not, idk.

As with most comparisons of guns to cars and other things, I think it's important to remember that guns, unlike cars and knives, were designed with the specific purpose of making killing easier. Cars and knives serve a function other than being a weapon. And I'd also point out that cars are very, very well regulated, including who can use them and what people have to do to be able to use them legally.

Cars exist for a purpose other than killing. Guns do not.

  18. College Kids Aren't the Only Ones Demanding 'Safe Spaces'
Donald Trump got creamed in the Wisconsin primary last night, but he's still finding ways to dominate the news. His latest trick has been to transform himself into the modern-day bogey man or El Coco, the monster who comes in the night for your kids. Well, your college-age kids.

Trump's name is at the center of a rash of bizarre stories on campuses across America, the most recent being the universities of Kansas and Michigan-Ann Arbor. Students have been waking up to find "Trump '16" messages in chalk scrawled on sidewalks, sometimes alongside other messages (like "Build the Wall" or "Stop Islam").

At each stop, students have complained to administrators that Trump's very name makes them feel unsafe. In Michigan, students actually called the police. Just today at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, a member of student government reportedly has been asked to resign for a pro-Trump chalking. To be fair, the chalking in question did include a drawing of the notorious red "Make America Great Again" hat, making it especially horrifying.

The effect of all of this will probably be to make Donald Trump the official face of the "safe space" controversy, a distinction he'll of course wear as a badge of honor. He may even push to have the trigger warning renamed the Trump warning.

I understand that his views are racist and he is a demagogue and just terrible dude all around. I haven't and will not vote for him. But I do believe in free speech. I feel like college kids just don't get that anyone can say anything. That's our right as Americans. Now if you say racist stuff, are people going to maybe beat you up or never talk to you again? OF COURSE and there are consequences to actions. But at the same time, getting people arrested or something for saying stuff is just silly. I'm a leftist, but I think the first amendment is incredibly important. also FUCK TRUMP

    I'm Back.

After spending the last few years in Kansas (one of the only Constitution Carry states), but now back in California, my views on gun control and gun purchasing has changed drastically. I was raised in Southern California, where most of the public is anti gun in general, regardless of what the Constitution says.

In short, I am not a big "gun guy", but at the same time I've fired more than a fair share of guns and I am about to start the process for my handgun licence and eventual concealed carry. Why, well simply put, I have the right to and I want to be able to protect myself and my family if shit ever hits the fan and the police aren't standing right next to me. At the very least I would do this for home protection.

With the way California gun laws are set up right now, you have to have a permit/license for any and every gun, not just handguns any longer. I am fine with that, there should be some sort of check on the person buying a tool used to kill.

These second amendment loyalists complain about making guns harder to obtain LEGALLY goes against the amendment, but it really doesn't; it just says "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Obviously there is a much needed "unless you're a violent offender or mentally unstable" caveat which most states implement. I think the amendment should be updated to reflect something like this.

All that said, there is no way to completely stop the illegal purchasing/selling/usage of guns, and the percent of the population that support this are simply naive.

Hillary tried to use the subway in the Bronx today and had some trouble with her MetroCard. This shouts publicity stunt. Trying to make it seem like she is an average person like us. Likely a response to Bernie Sanders interview the other day where he indirectly revealed he hasn't used a subway in years.

Once again, the Clintons are racists and when you ask us to put aside principles to vote against Trump, because he'd be worse or some such bullshit, keep this fresh in your mind.

For educational purposes, not for reasons of disagreement or argumentation, explain to me how this response was racist. It seems like a feesible defense toward a statement from a time when race relations were very different and the amount of information available to us was not the same as it is now.
