    No Fun. Not Ever.

After thinking about it some more, I totally forgot how fucking deep I was into the shock rock/nu-metal scene in high school. I will still argue for Mudvayne's first two albums.

LD.50 still holds up really well compared to a lot of the nu-metal scene.

IMO, they had one of the best bassists around. Got to see them live one time and I just stood there and watched him play.

Mudvayne's live DVD when LD came out might be one of the best live performances I've ever seen. It's totally worth checking out if you loved that album.

    Also, anyone remember Simon Says?

And their 3rd. That's the one with Happy, Just and Forget to Remember right? I loved them all, then they just started releasing blah.

I'm pretty sure I still have their first 3 DVDs.

Damn, they have 3? Honestly I stopped listening to them after LD for whatever reason.

Still so lucky I randomly stumbled across them a couple years ago.

Just listened to Our Song, holy shit I thought I was listening to The White Stripes for a split second when it first started.

Not really my thing, but maybe after a couple of listens.

Moros Eros is a good band, don't care what people say.

I remember reading Flaw is back. Their first two cds were good. They were the first band when I was growing up that I loved how brutal the singer's scream was and also how beautiful his singing was. I know they got roped in with the Nu Metal thing, but their softer songs are great.

I'm definitely more a fan of their slower stuff.

Big Cloud - sounds like a garage rock bands take on a bon iver song
    I'm All Right
    Fireworks and Fireworks - Reprise
    Lose Sight of You

Usually not a fan of bedroom punk type shit but I love Radiator Hospital.

    You mean roided out Eminem?

But yes, they had the same effect on me as Staind.

    Did someone say Staind?

lol I guess they do look alike :-)

I looovvee Staind, but their softer stuff is great. Staind surprised me with how heavy they went with latest cd, esp since Aaron released a country album that year too. Dude is such an amazing vocalist.

Cold is the same way too, they try to be a heavy band but their soft stuff is where its at.

Yup. I'm listening to Whole from Flaw right now, damn they were pretty dark with their lyrics, and a lot more like Staind than I remember. Plus there is a breakdown in that song that sounds like something from Norma Jean's Bless The Martyr album.

I also remember Cold, but I don't think I got into them really. I'm listening to their song Gone Away right now.

Man, I forgot just how depressing some of this music really was.

This is making me want to listen to all three right now. I remember loving Not Enough from Flaw. Whole is great too. Cold's Anatomy of a Tidal Wave is a great example of how his voice carries the band, even though the music is mediocre. My favorite Staind song will probably always be Raining Again. That melody is so catchy and that guitar solo is great.

  20. I was a huge nu-metal fan in highschool, and I'm not embarrassed of that. There were some shitty bands and albums but there were some really good bands and albums.

I remember listening to Staind when Dysfunction first came out, then their HARD shift into Break the Cycle, which was awesome and seriously dark.

Speaking of Lewis, I'm listening to his new country album right now (That Ain't Country on Youtube). Why did he do this? I know it isn't his first entry into the genre, but still. Also, he's using a southern accent, though he's from Vermont. He's like a modern day Dwight Yoakam (look him up).

One thing I'll say about it though, he's bringing the music back to the 90's. Reminds me of older Garth Brooks.

You should check out their self titled if you like Dysfunction and Break the Cycle. Its great.

Not a fan of country really at all, but I like his stuff. I've only heard his first EP and his first LP but I didn't think he changed his voice at all really, which is what I think is so cool that his voice just kinda matched the country style too. I totally get your comparison to classic country though for sure.

True, but it's the accent that gets me. The lyrical content and the music is perfectly fine, since it's more 90's country and not country-pop.

Using the fake accent makes the attempt feel like a mockery.

Even in Staind he sang with a southern-ish accent. At least that's what it always sounded like to me. Honestly many nu-metal vocalists do
