I'm not old enough to have lived in the grunge era (32), but no matter how hard I try I just can't listen to any of those bands with a few minor exceptions.

I just missed that era and really started to like music around The Offspring's Smash, 311's Blue album and 3eb's self titled.

Yeah, I always thought Nirvana wrongly got all the attention over the other grunge bands, not that think they are bad.

What an amazing idea. As much as I love the deftones, they could use a 2nd guitar player.

Speaking of grungey bands (given they at least started out that way), there's nowhere near enough discussion about Silverchair, just in general.

More post-grunge, but STP put together a hell of a greatest hits.

I think Celebration Rock is deserving of it's praise but I find most anything prior to that record unlistenable.

Overlooked band. Purple is fantastic, and their switch to making power pop went very under the radar in comparison. Like cmon "Days of the Week"? So great

I really only know Core which has a lot of turgid filler in between a lot of good singles. I really need to engage more with their catalog.

    Tops.

Their progression over the years was brilliant as well. Neon Ballroom especially; I mean Emotion Sickness is exactly how a rock band should incorporate an orchestra. Flawless song.

Man if I know your taste like I think I do(?) I think you would go ga-ga over Purple. I haven't heard Tiny Music in full but based on the singles I think that you'd love that album too

I don't know if they were ahead of their time, but a few of their songs are essentially timeless. I could have sworn they came out around the same time as 3eb, only to find out it was 92 when Hey Jealousy hit MTV.

Gin Blossoms get unfairly shoved into the "90's nostalgia" pile, which is unfair. New Miserable Experience is a timeless record. The story behind their guitarist is so sad, which is a shame as he was a hell of a songwriter.
