I am pretty sure I read last night that Nothington will be releasing a new album in either January or February via Red Scare! Pretty pumped for that.

They announced yesterday that it's called "In The End" and it's out February 17th.

I just gotta say. So far, for me, the Punk AOTY has been Face to Face's - Protection. Still jamming that album consistently.

Close second for me is Pulley's - No Change In The Weather.

Anyone heard CUT UP? Really fast, catchy, pop punk/skate punk.

The Face to Face album didn't stick with as much as I would have liked.
Punk album of the year for me is "No Anchor" by Chris Willard and the Ship Thieves. Pulley and pup would be 2nd and 3rd. Descendents surprisingly let me down a bit. I think I let my expectations get too high. Dinosaur Jr gets my overal album of the year.

Punk AOTY for me is definitely Pkew Pkew Pkew's closely followed by PUP and then Martha in third. If you haven't heard Martha I definitley recommend you check them out, they're a uk band:

    My top 3 is probably:

    1. Against Me!
    2. Descendents
    3. Chris Wollard & The Ship Thieves

    Best EP is Creeper obviously.

I can't forget about Descendents. Hypercaffium is a solid release and I'm pleased after a 12 year wait. It just didn't end up being in heavy rotation like Face To Face has been.

I actually like these guys. Lots of angst and urgency in their music. Not many new bands like that anymore. Thanks for the post.

Anytime! Glad you like them. I stumbled across them and they just remind me of that golden era or pop/skate punk so much. Good stuff.

I noticed on their Facebook they have a video of them playing Carousel. Totes.

Anyone listen to Ignite's latest release? Holy awesomeness.

    Newbie

I recently started getting into punk music (so forgive me if I sound stupid), and Agent Orange is one of my favorite bands so far. I'm wondering why they aren't mentioned very often in threads and stuff. Do people generally not like them?

My top 3 for 2016 were:

    1. NOFX - First Ditch Effort
    2. Descendents - Hypercaffium Spazzinate
    3. Useless I.D - State Is Burning

Really cliché 3 to choose, but it's just the sound I love.

FDE was lyrically amazing, and really brought back nostalgic NOFX for me. Generation Z is up there as one of the best songs they've ever written, and It Ain't Lonely At The Bottom is just pure, fun NOFX.

HS just proved that a band doesn't need to stray from their classic sound to deliver something new and awesome. A progressive Descendents sound would've just been weird anyway. We got over 20 amazing new Descendents songs, with their classic sound, and it just showed that their formula is winning. Without Love may be one of the best punk songs of 2016.

SIB was a simple, but fun melodic/skate punk album. I love Useless I.D, and it sucks this band doesn't get the love they should, as their sound is very reminiscent of the golden age. Night Shift was on repeat for days for me, love that song.

Thanks for some of the recommendations above too! Need new tuneage to start my year. :)

Without Love is such a good song. I love everything about it. It should go down as a Descendents classic.

That, and Unchanged were the two Descendents songs I didn't know I needed this year.

I love all of HS. They played quite a bit of it when I saw them live.

That was my favourite album to whack on last year when I wanted a good sing along, such a fun record. It was also 2nd in my AOTY.

Top 3 punk releases for me in 2016:

    Direct Hit!
    Descendents
    Dirty Nil

Triple d lineup, ha. Clearly I love alliteration.

Tip of the iceberg though. I loved a lot of releases this year in the punk genre, but those three were the ones that have stuck w/ me the most. Pup is 4th for sure. Pulley's album is fucking awesome too but I haven't had it as long as the others so that one could very well move up in the future.
