To be fair, not much is "in that style" since just about nothing sounds like that record. The production quality was years head of everyone else at the time and the layered harmony guitars and vocals were really distinct.

I'm honestly bored of hearing you admit I was right, so I won't even hassle you about it. Haha. Glad you like a great record.

I meant like classic rock in general, but yeah, you're right. That's probably why I like it so much, haha

So here's my speech I give over and over and over and you can't stop me:

There is no such thing as "classic rock" and the fact that radio programmers have tried to invent it is an incredibly harmful way to ruin decades of music. AC/DC's thinking-with-your-dick power chord permiutations are not the same as Van Morrison's mystic folk-nB which is not the same as Jimi's mash-up of the blues and psychadelia which is not the same as Creedence's Buck-Owens-in-the-swamp choogling which is not the same as Santana's jazz-in-the-Southern-Hemisphere ferocity which is not the same as...

Treating all of these things as one genre by selecting a playlist of their songs as narrow as any Top 40 station and pummeling us all with it is one of the worst things modern corporate radio has done to music.

This explains your response to my first post then, haha. Why do you say it's harmful?

I mean, not like in a broader social sense. But in the sense of the way we treat art. If someone said "I don't like R&B" without knowing how different Marvin Gaye was from Teddy Pendergrass was from Prince was from Smokey was from Big Joe Turner, people would bug out. But rock has become a punching bag to the degree where it's become normal to be similarly reductive. It just seems like a shitty way to process art.

My buddy has a sped-up MP3 copy of the Boston s/t and it sounds like Fang Island, which is to say it's fucking sick

  12. I've always liked that Boston record. But in the same way I like Doritos. No substance but sometimes when no one's watching you dont care. (Sorry Chris)

Music is a sonic medium. It works with or without depth. Variety, my man. Variety.

there isn't a proper word for the setting sun.

You looking to get into classical? I know it's a broad term, but I find it probably the most exciting field to explore.

totally up for anything, haha. definitely not against anything here.

i'm actually going to give my own contributions to the thread for those who are also doing a similar experience, because these are really the only three records i feel i could give to this.

Kate Bush - Hounds of Love, The Beat Happening - You Turn Me On, and Bjork - Post.

    Awesome!

These are some of my favourites:
Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition (original piano suite performed by Nobujuki Tjusii; some people prefer the Steven Osborne recording, but I do not)
Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition (performed by Berliner Philharmoniker and Claudio Abbado; this is the orchestrated version by Ravel) - saw this performed by my local SO and it was amazing
Grieg - 3 Orchestral Pieces from Sigurd Jorsalfar (performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra)
Grieg - Peer Gynt Suites (performed by Berliner Philharmoniker and Herbert von Karajan)
Tchaikovsky - Symphony no. 4 (performed by Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra and Christian Lindberg) - basically a homer pick because this orchestra is from my neck of the woods
Tchaikovsky - Piano Concerto no. 1 (performed by anyone, really, haven't heard a bad one)

These are all pretty dramatic, but I absolutely adore that.

I actually went to see my first opera (Fedora) a week ago, and it was a remarkable experience.

Edit: Btw, thank you for making this thread. Stealing a lot of recs from genres I'm not familiar with.

That's awesome. It's stupid to regret decisions you made when you were a kid, but having played a classical instrument is definitely something that would have made me a better musician today.

Ska is good when done well. BTMI and the Frightnrs album from last year being good examples. The major ska singles are still fun. Impression That I Get is a well written song
