Still can't believe I didn't stay for the set at Wrecking Ball. Exhaustion is a hell of a thing I guess

Absolutely. I always thought them and Dear and the Headlights, who are one of my favorite bands, made no sense on EVR. but looking back I'm just thankful that EVR took the risk on them, both bands were real good.

Anyway Thursday yeah. Dying In New Brunswick and the closer are the top songs on Waiting, I think. Would need to listen again. Love the og artwork and don't super care for the repress cover but I haven't seen all inserts and stuff so I can't speak to all of it.

Same haha. Re-listened to the discography a handful of times over the last few days and it's a good place to be.

  5. Running From The Rain.... what a song. That first chorus still gives me chills when Geoff's voice cracks.

  6. It's tied with "Turnpike Divides" for my favorite Thursday song. Would be so cool to hear it live one day.

Song is a great example of how godly the production is. Most potent song of all time.

I've only listened to Full Collapse and War all the Time in full (I know), but I heard ACBTLD for the first time today. Wow. What a powerful album. I'll need to spend some time with this one before moving onto Common Existence/No Dev.

    Autumn Leaves Revisited is unreal.

Haha, I felt the same thing when I turned my friend onto MewithoutYou last year. Seriously though, the album ended like 10 minutes ago and I can't stop thinking about how enourmous Autumn Leaves is. I loved the entire record but that song had the most immediacy and impact, for sure.

These kinds of posts always make me feel really happy. ACBTLD is a top 5 album of all time for me. I'm so glad there are people still listening to it for their first time to this day. Truly incredible and special album.

I'm glad I could bring you some joy today! I've actually known of Thursday for at least 5 years now, but for whatever reason I never moved past their early material. In fact, I think I actually own No Dev on cd but I can't say I've ever listened to more than a couple songs from it. I used to be a terrible music fan. But, I'm making a concerted effort this year to dig into artists that I've neglected or slept on in the past, and Thursday was very high up on my to-do list. I've been thinking about the album since I heard it (I played it twice today) and can't wait to spin it again tomorrow.

For some reason ACBTLD never has clicked for me. WATT is probably a top 5 record for me but I just don't get the love for ACBTLD.

I'm curious what about it really resonates with people because I feel like I'm missing out.

What I love about ACBTLD is how it still has that post hardcore aggression from their earlier records but it adds this big atmospheric sound to it as well. Sonically speaking, Dave Friddmann did a fantastic job on the album. It's one of their best sounding albums while still maintaining that perfectly imperfect nature to Thursday's sound. The songs all get to really breathe.

Take a song like The Other Side Of The Crash, which is this classic Thursday song until the bridge comes in where we really get a first taste of the atmospheric nature of the album before everything comes crashing back down. The album has a really great dynamic by having some far more atmospheric, wide-sounding songs like Sugar In The Scarament, Running From The Rain, and Autumn Leaves Revisited.

Geoff also took steps forward vocally and lyrically. He concentrated in becoming more of a vocalist than be did a lyricist. He's not cramming as many words as he can into these songs like he did on FC and WATT. There's still a ton of classic Thursday songs on here with big hooks: Counting 5-4-3-2-1, We Will Overcome, Telegraph Avenue Kiss. Meanwhile, as I said earlier, the aggression is still there with songs like At This Velocity, Into The Blinding Light, and the aforementioned The Other Side Of The Crash.

To me, ACBTLD is the best example of Thursday's sound. It showcases what they do so well and has some really stellar songwriting that makes for some really memorable moments. The Other Side Of The Crash and Counting 5-4-3-2-1 is one of the best opening duos I've heard as the ground just hits the band running right away, while Into The Blinding Light and Autumn Leaves Revisited make for this incredibly heavy close to the album. In between are other stellar songs like the yearning Sugar In The Sacrament, the explosive At This Velocity, the cathartic Running From The Rain, and obviously more.

I think there's a lot to love on ACBTLD. Somehow it has become my most listened to album by Thursday. It's the best representation of what they do so well. And looking back at the scene in hindsight, that album is a masterpiece and really challenged not just Thurstay fans, but music fans within our scene. I can't think of many other bands that put out an album around 2006 where they came out of left field and changed up their sound. Brand New did it TDAG and Thrice did it with Vheissu. With that being said, it's a challenging album in some ways. It didn't used to be my favorite. It may have been my fourth favorite overall, but there is a magic to ACBTLD that has propelled it to the top for me and I've never looked back since.

I love ACBTLD too but I still would have prefered a more stripped down mix of a few of the songs on the album. Most specifically the Lovesong Writer and Telegraph Avenue Kiss. The TAK version is preferable to the album version.

When I heard the Lovesong Writer at the holiday show for the first time, I turned to the person next to me and said that I think that might be my new favorite Thursday song. The album version is cool but I like the live version a lot more.

I remember when acbtld came out people were trashing it hard on ap bc the production was unlike anything released at the time. Looking back it's cool that people are starting to see it as their best record.
