If I could just forget it

Terry Date supposedly mixed the final version of Gore. Half way there. Let's get him on production for the next one.

Is this actually out there now? As in not the vinyl rip

Yes, V0 rip from CD is available all over the place. Sounds great, albeit brickwalled like pretty much all Deftones CDs. Hoping for an HDTracks download from a more audiophile-oriented master like KNY had.

Looking forward to checking this one out. KNY seemed to get a bit of a luke warm reception but I thought it was brilliant.

    hmmm

KNY got a very positive reception by and large. There were a few Deftones fans who were disappointed but a majority of people thought it was really good.

Mind you, there are people who think it's their best, which is lunacy.

Gore is out for delivery today!

The pictures of it look amazing. Can't wait to spin it later.

Listened to the first 5 tracks so far and I wasn't blown away. That being said, I've let them sit with me for 24 hours now, and a few riffs/lines kinda stick out. Interested to hear the back half of this, as I've heard it's the better half, but I think like most Deftones records, this is gonna be one that really grows on you.

  13. I've been listening to their discography from front to back for the first time in forever and I have to say that s/t, Diamond Eyes and KNY all sound very similar. Like Album Part A, B, C. Anyone agree or am I crazy for thinking that?

I honestly disagree. If anything the s/t is very different from those two. DE, and KNY you could make an argument that they have a similar vibe/aesthetic.

    hmmm

S/T sounds almost nothing like DE or KNY. It's much darker and heavier. DE and KNY are the most similar two in their discography.

Yeah, I think DE and KNY are the only ones that really sound similar in their discography, which comes as no surprise since they work with the same producer on both those albums. KNY hasn't held up as well for me over time while I've actually grown to love DE more.

Agree on Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan being similar. Don't see the comparison to S/T at all though. It's unlike anything else in their discography to me.

DE and KNY are very similar, which has a lot to do with why I enjoy them less than the other albums. I don't think they sound like the s/t record tho

    fwiw:

    White Pony
    Around the Fur
    Gore
    Deftones
    Diamond Eyes
    Saturday Night Wrist
    Koi No Yokan
    Adrenaline

At the moment I think Gore's just outside my top three:

    1) White Pony
    2) Around The Fur
    3) Deftones
    4) Gore
    5) Adrenaline
    6) Diamond Eyes
    7) Koi No Yokan
    8) Saturday Night Wrist

They have nothing below an 8/10 album.

I think the run of Around the Fur, White Pony, and S/T is the holy trinity of the discography. Those are the classics of the first era of Deftones. I think Diamond Eyes is the equivalent of Around the Fur in the post-Chi era of the band. From what a lot of you have been saying, it sounds like Gore just might be the White Pony. I'm ready for tomorrow so I can finally hear the back half of this record.

Totally agree, that run of three will always be their peak IMO. An album of straight-up bangers (Around The Fur), a flawless masterpiece (White Pony) and the dark, moody one (Self-titled). Those three albums are basically everything I want from rock music and Deftones amazingly managed to make them all in a row.

I no longer expect that level of brilliance - probably just a notch or two below, and with Gore, I think they've managed it. It's a grower most definitely but it's already clicking for me and I expect it to do so even more in the next few weeks. There are some really great moments on this record and you notice them more each time you listen.

Definitely agree with S/T being unlike anything else in their discography. There's a sound they captured there that really sets it apart to me; I truly think that's where they found their perfect balance of blending the lush, beautiful, and melodic with the punishing, chaotic, and heavy. Whenever I think of this band, that album is the first one I reach for. It's what I thinkof when someone ask me what this band sounds like. Idk, it's really fucking special to me.

As for Gore, I think I still need to give it quite a few more listens before it really sinks in with me (which I think is a good thing). There's so much going on in some of these songs it feels hard to follow at times, but I think that's the charm of the album. I've yet to sit down and give it a focused listen with headphones on, though, I'm sure that'll really help. As of right now, my favorites are Phantom Bride, (L)MIRL, and the title track. Though I will say, I'm surprised that so many people don't care for Doomed User, the guitar work alone makes it a standout for me.
