Outkast Band

Arguably the greatest duo in hip-hop's history, Andre 3000 and Big Boi helped establish the South (and Atlanta in particular) as a viable commercial and artistic alternative to East/West binary. They are one of only two hip hop acts to ever win the Album of the Year Grammy Award (for a double album that doesn't work nearly as well as their best material). Big Boi has gone on to a successful solo career, recently dabbling in the kind of eclectical experimentation that 3stacks was more known for (and with similarly mixed results) while Andre has only flirted with solo work and a number of jaw dropping guest appearances on Future, Frank Ocean, Drake, Beyonce, and Lil Wayne albums.

They only released four proper albums as a duo (SouthernPlayalistiCadillacMuzik, Aquemini, ATLiens, and Stankonia) before releasing the double album that essentially functioned as solo efforts for each (Speakerboxx/The Love Below).

3000 is actually a very intriguing actor now. His work in All is By My Side was really great. He has a similarly magnetic presence onscreen as he did on the mic. Would always welcome more musical projects from him, but I'm glad he's putting together an interesting acting career. I should re-watch Idlewild, I remember liking it at the time but my critical lens is a lot different now. And I never really listen to the music from it even though, again, I remember really liking it at the time.

Every time I see their name, I immediately have "So Fresh, So Clean" stuck in my head. It's not even my favorite of their big hits. It's just always there on default somehow.

"Roses" has been stuck in my head for the last 3 weeks and I have no idea why. Not complaining, but yeah

Saw them in Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park during their reunion tour and it was easily one of the greatest concerts I've ever experienced. What they did for Atlanta and hip-hop in the 90's is truly amazing. I love these dudes.

I saw Andre 3000 out in ATL once and tried to gather the nerve to get an autograph and totally chickened out.

My friend played some Aquemini today and it sounded really good. I've slept on that album for too long and I'm fixing that tonight.

The only post-1980s hip hop I can get behind. None of this Drake/Wiz Khalifa wannabe swag crap hahaha

The Love Below should not be the "even" album

    It's brilliant.

I need to try Speakerbox/Love Below the the amount of songs is intimidating. It'll happen one of these days. I think ATLiens is next for me.

Just think of it as two separate albums, that's pretty much what it is anyway. You don't have to listen to both in a row, it's a Big Boi solo album and an Andre solo album packaged together

True. I love Big Boi's solo stuff, too, so that's probably where I'll start.

Love Below is awesome, it's so all over the place but in a really cool way. I like Andre flexing his diversity, even if it's weird sometimes. Really bummed he hasn't released any music in a LONG while, even more bummed that the soundtrack for the Hendrix movie that he was supposed to be all over never materialized. Give me Outkast, give me Andre, anything new would be great

I really wonder what sort of career Future, 2 chainz, ilovemakonnen, rae sremmurd etc would have without outkast's influence on Atlanta. I enjoy a lot of the aforementioned stuff but musically and lyrically I feel like Outkast is miles apart, and in a good way.

Always forget how much I hate "Snappin' and Trappin'" until it comes on. I think I legit repress how repulsive it is.
