When an imperial officer was shot. I forget when. I'll keep an eye out next time I see it.

I'm sure it'll get brought up in a spoiler review of whoever said it. I forget who said it. I just can't really think of anything that major.

That happens a lot. Haha not very helpful.

I caught it immediately in TFA and it's always incredibly noticeable to me in all the other media I hear it in. If it does happen, it is odd that I didn't notice it.

I thought perhaps they skipped it since they even didn't let the "I have a bad feeling about this" quote finish. While there was a ton of in joke and references, the cut off made me think maybe this was something else they "skipped".

    Fight the long defeat.

I loved that they cut off K-2SO when he started to say "I have a bad feeling about this." Felt like a fun nod to the regular episodes while distinguishing this movie as something different.

Also, while Vader's last scene is obviously fan service, I found myself asking why he wouldn't just use the Force to grab the plans when he had just torn the soldiers' guns out of their hands. Obviously, continuity demands that things go down the way they did, but it didn't make the most sense to me in the moment.

I like how they stayed true to Stormtroopers having crappy aim.

In that moment I don't think he had seen the actual disk/knew that's what it was.

haha it's just the site. They always put a cleverly related ad at the bottom, it's great.

I think that still exists as a lack of looking into details. One of the big moments of Lost Stars is the destruction of the Death Star and one character discovering the flaw and being ignored. The hubris of the Empire/imperialism is more of not looking critically at threats because they are deemed a small or insignificant (the exhaust port/Rebels) and not simply being ok with having them. I think it's a subtle difference that does speak better to the larger themes of the franchise of a small group exploiting an Empire's weakness and not being taken seriously because of scale.

    Just a friendly reminder

You want a much different movie than the one they wanted to make I think. I also think that Mendelssohn's character had a thematically interesting death. He spends the whole movie trying to be Tarkin and assuming his grand importance in the Empire because of his role in the Death Star. But in the end, he's just collateral damage along with everyone else in the base from the thing he thought would bring him so much power. He was just a soldier too.

All I want is a good movie. This one is okay, but flawed. For a movie that does have an aim to explore nuanced morality for the first time in Star Wars, more of a psyche in Mendelsohn's character would help a lot. More development of every single character would help a lot. What does Donnie Yen'a character want? What drives him? How do they overlap in this story? Same questions for his cool friend. How does Diego Luna go from being someone who kills an ally for the rebellion to hesitating and deciding not to kill someone he was ordered to kill? Beyond meeting his daughter. All these characters have potential. None of them are written to an worthwhile development of it.

    Not great, it was fine.

I loved the visuals, this was just a marvel to behold visually in every way. The camerawork and the sense of scale is something that we really don't get enough of in this franchise, but Gareth Edwards really demonstrated his talent for making big things seem BIG (see: Godzilla). I thought that Felicity Jones was good in her role, as were all of the actors; although they were all given varying degrees of depth from the script, the performances, at least, were good. Darth Vader was used well (i.e. not more than a couple scenes).

Wasn't really a huge fan of CGI Peter Cushing, which dove so hard into the uncanny valley that it struck oil. I understand why the character was needed but it was so awkward to see. Should've cast a lookalike.

On the surface I think I simply enjoyed a movie where we pretty much knew everyone was going to die. For a traditional franchise blockbuster I find that simple fact to be refreshing

Perhaps why we didn't get too in depth characters here.

The more we understand a character, the more their sacrifice means.

I would of been fine with making the movie longer if it meant understanding the characters better.

I mean, what parts of it, that weren't a retread of former score, were that memorable to you?

Or maybe like me he doesn't really focus on it after one viewing and needs to see it again to allow the score to sink in?

It reminded me a lot of Tron:Legacy with Jeff Bridges. It was a bit off seeing a CGI Peter Cushing but it would been weirder to cast someone who looked nothing like him. I'm neutral on it, could of been better but it wasn't awful.

Regardless of the script issues, I think a Best Visual Effects Academy Award nomination is undoubtedly in this film's future.

Just because something is awesome doesn't mean it's fan service. For that matter, the entire Star Wars saga is fan service at this point so can we just stop on this?

I do agree that the characters could have been fleshed out better. What was the Director's true motivations? What was the true reason Baze and Chirrut joined them?

I think we all can agree that these two movies from Disney, despite the flaws, are a drastic improvement from the prequels. Like I'm just happy we have good/decent movies to enjoy.

The score felt kind of awkward at times. You could feel it starting to turn into one of Williams' original pieces before it veered off and went a different direction. A little jarring at first - it felt like it was treading close to familiarity but avoided doing so. Idk

With the score it wasn't so much the music itself that felt awkward, but when so and so died and I wasn't really feeling anything from it whether from the lack character development or the script the music that played just seemed over dramatic.

They re-cast Mon Mothma and everyone's cool with it. Would have rather had another actor as Tarkin to avoid the distraction/borderline unethical recreation of someone who actually existed and has passed away + literal repeat of audio from A New Hope.
