My biggest question for those who saw it,did the film have a dark tone to it or was it obvious that reshoota were made to lighten the film throughout?

It certainly was not dark(at least nowhere near as dark as t could have been i guess) but I don't think that's cause of reshoots necessarily. It also wasn't overly humorous. I though the tone was fine. Which I think describes this whole movie, it's totally fine. Some of the best Star Wars action for sure, but action can only carry a movie so far.

I guess what I don't like about this movie is that even though this is a supposed "stand alone" movie, there is so much in it that, if you hadn't seen the other SW movies you'd be like, ".....huh?". Like it really doesn't have legs without the other movies. I'd almost go so far as to say that a newcomer to the series could probably enjoy and understand TFA more than this

Seeing this 9am Saturday morning at a full 70mm IMAX screen here in Minnesota, with a perfectly center/back row seat. Pretty stoked

I've heard in multiple reviews that this one is aimed more at the fans than the casual viewer. They say someone would not be lost, but they would not get as much out of it.

As a super fan, I love hearing that. As a movie critic, it worries me a little.

Nah it's no big deal to me, I kind of enjoy it. I work from home and can pretty much take time/work off whenever I want so that part isn't a problem. It's a fun thing to do once a year. I'm gonna read/listen to music/play video games all day so I'll still be entertained at least.

I'll still see it at the fancy 21+ reserved seating place like I did last year later, of course.

I think casual viewers could go in and still get the jist of it, but there's a lot of 'member berries in it that will be lost in them.

Actually rewatching Episodes 1-3 starting last night and going tonight, to get myself caught up on the story before seeing the film Saturday, as I haven't seen them since they came out

I watched Ep IV last night and man, it had been awhile. Han was such a great character right from the start. I had forgotten how funny the entire sequence of them running around the Death Star was.

My brother is in grad school in the UK and got to see this last night. Jealous.

Going tonight at 9:30 though. Can't wait!

Update: called my local theater and they said they weren't letting people officially line up until 4pm (first showing is at 7pm). They said people are free to line up outside the theater but they won't let anyone in until then. Looks like I won't be waiting outside all day. I'll probably drive over there to scope it out but not waiting outside all day is kind of nice.

I agree, but the fancy reserved seating theater's server crashed the minute tickets went live. It happened last year too and they said they were going to be prepared this year, which was obviously untrue. It's located downtown so I just purchased a ticket for a place closer to home.

You'd figure the fancy theater would have upgraded their bandwidth or something after the cluster fuck that was last year. SO many people were upset. That was a fun Facebook thread...

Yeah it's weird, I heard so many stories about people having trouble getting tickets and servers crashing, but I went right onto Fandango like the day after the tickets went on sale and bought like 9 for my friends and I. All in the back row too, which was still available. I think maybe most of the people in my hometown still haven't figured out that Fandango is a thing yet, somehow.

How many showings is the theatre offering? My IMAX theatre has showings every 3 hours for the whole weekend. Mind you, every ticket costs $18, being the 70mm IMAX version, but still. There were tons of tickets available the whole weekend as of yesterday, and I'm right near Minneapolis

The one I'm going to has 3 IMAX 3D showings (last one is at 1:45 AM!). As for Digital 3D and regular showings, there are 11 each.

    I absolutely loved it.
I was a bit unsure during the first 15 minutes or so, but when it gets going it's great. Good balance between humor and darker toned scenes.

The only thing I wasn't massive on was the score, feel like it really missed John Williams. Not that it was bad, just nothing particularly memorable.

My hype was so high for TFA last year that I never really thought to myself "What if this movie is bad?" I actually didn't think about that until the scene with Lor San Tekka and Poe in the beginning while they were in they tent. During their first few lines I was pretty worried. I remained worried until the stormtroopers forced Poe to his knees in front of Kylo and he asks "So who talks first? Do I talk or do you talk?"

I laughed and immediately all my worries dissolved (at least for the duration of the film). It felt like Star Wars from that point on.

Yeah that one; only 70mm/true IMAX screen in MN I believe. I was going to do the 12pm one on Saturday, but had no open seats in the middle

There are way less showings of this around me than TFA. Last year there were showings for like 2 days straight. Not so this year. A couple screenings tonight and then starting again at a normal time tomorrow. No 4am showings and such.
