I was really excited for Kuts, first time I listened, I was like, cool album, and for some reason, maybe just what I was listening to at the time didn't stick with it, but I went back to it like 3 months ago and it's become I think maybe my favorite thing Matt has done.

Similar to what happened to me. Not much of the record stood out to me on the first listen, but I grew to love it months later. It is probably what I have revisited most often from Matt in the last year.

yeah I still really like this album, it's a great summer album for sure. I wasn't expecting untitled part 2 with a new line up out the gate. but I am hoping next album they do they branch out a bit, less oh oh's and na na's (don't get me wrong, super fan of those in songs, there were just soooo many on this haha). mark and tom have both spoken in the past about how much matt's writing inspires them. either way, I'm excited to see what they do next.

It's interesting how there isn't much of a consensus on this album, it's pretty polarizing. Almost everyone agrees there's a couple week tracks but to each person it's different. For instance earlier in the thread someone mentioned the Home-KOTW-Teenage Sattelites section as being week. But Home is one of the top tracks for me and the weak section imo is KOTW-Left Alone (which I know many people love that song)

  5. i just listened to the whole album for the first time in awhile.

it's weird. i don't dislike any track (except for "California") but i only LOVE a small handful of the songs. the rest are good and i don't skip them, but they just don't give me the warm fuzzy feelings i expect from Blink-182 songs, if that makes sense. i can't put my finger on why that is, but yeah... it's not a bad album.

I actually still really love this album. It has lower moments (Home through Sattelites) but I don't dislike any song in fact I still love them all even that stretch and California. I was surprised how much I liked the album and continue to, I even spun it front to back yesterday and today after the Grammy nom. I'll steadfast stay in the Pro California camp

I agree with your lower moment section of the album. teenage satellites grew on me with time. Mark's "teenage Satellites" yell really take me out of the song though haha.

and KOTW chorus melody reminds me of the "Deep in the Heart of Texas" every time.

I'm still very much pro California, I still listen to songs on California each week but I haven't listened to the whole album in some time. To me I think it has some great tracks on it: Cynical, San Diego, Bored to Death, She's Out of Her Mind and some very good tracks: Left Alone, Sober, and No Future.

I actually tried to go back and listen to Neighborhoods to see how I like it now as I haven't listened to that album straight through in over a year and I just have a really tough time with it. Perhaps now knowing how the recording processed worked and how little some of the members cared about it and how even Mark and Travis disregard it. Even a song like After Midnight that I love and would be in my top 15 blink songs I just find it hard to listen to since California was released.

Might be the fact that we're not young anymore. Idk that's at least my reasoning haha

For example I don't think a song like Anthem Part 2 is a better song than anything on California, but I sure do love it more.

Album still holds up for me. Glad they gave this to the fans and that it was such a refreshing album. I'm ready for something more mature sounding from them though. Definitely considering their individual catalogs. I'm still hoping for a cross between self-titled and crimson, too.

I really wish they would join Bill Stevenson for production purposes, but I don't think Feldman is going anywhere after the success of California. I would be surprised if they move onto someone else.

I know. The melody is just so catchy to me. I can't really defend the lyrics.

Sidenote: Cynical still gives me chills and makes me wonder "what if the whole album was as good as this..." every time.

I played it so much before the album came out that I ignored it for awhile but it truly is top tier blink to me. As for defending the lyrics.. How many blink songs have lyrics that you'd have an easy time constructing a strong defense for? TOYPAJ is kinda hard sometimes for me to get through now strictly cause of the lyrics lol. They write great melodies. They write super catchy lyrics. But they aren't Shakespeare lol.

I guess it's more that the lyrics don't mean anything to me, as someone who has spent a total of 3 days in California in their 30 years on earth.

Yeah, I understand that. I've never been. But BTD is a typical blink song, that has nothing to do with California. Los Angeles and California though, I get that. I have no desire to ever step foot in LA. Still really like the song about it even if I can't relate lol.

Can anyone successfully defend blink-182 lyrics? Haha. I mean outside of some of their more serious songs like Adam's Song or STFTK most of their lyrics are just pretty simple and catchy. That's what I love about them (and part of the reason why I don't like many post 2003 Tom songs).

I've lived in Los Angeles. The lyrics to California are terrible regardless. I know they aren't good, but even when blink was writing stuff like "Online Songs" or "Story of a Lonely Guy", even while it felt earnest, it was with a self-aware immaturity. "California" is super earnest but trying to be melancholy and capture something else and it falls flat. I don't mind most of the lyrics on the album, but "California" sticks out badly.

I've actually never really attached to any of blink's lyrics. Mostly enjoy them for the melodies and music as a whole. I've never really focused on the words in terms of lyricism.

    Except for maybe Feelin This.

  24. I've listened to Blink-182 religiously for over 15 years, and I still don't know all of their lyrics. Lyrics are the last thing I pay attention to in songs, haha.

But I do notice how often bands sing specifically about California, and so hearing songs that mention California automatically triggers me. It's so common that just comes off as extremely lazy to me. So Blink's track "California" just pushes all my buttons...

Same. I'm a drummer so I listen to the beat, and bass guitar the most.

Side note: SOOHM is the best pop song they've written in a decade
