Ab'a album shaping up to be a real shit show

 

i cant believe craig jenkins said control system is still one of the best of the decade for him. less than half that album holds up

 

he has a point

 

I liked "Huey Knew," and this "D.R.U.G.S." track might be my favorite of the songs released so far. I think I only cared for about half of Control System, but the highs on that project were really high.

 

The good stuff on it is great imo

But there are turds on it for sure

 

too uneven to be one of the best of the decade

 

Do y'all like Ab-SOul features

I get so pissed every time I hear SOLO

 

the only time ive ever liked ab-soul is on terrorist threats, still love that song

 

Checking out Kevin Gates, YG, and Skepta. Mainly cuz they were mentioned on a lot of EOTY lists, but I've been sleeping on Gates/YG for a while. Really digging Islah.

 

I wish I liked that Skepta record. Feel like I'm the only one who was severely let down

I might be thinking wrong but I never gave the Skepta record a proper listen because James Blake came out around that time. That Blake record was all I listened to for a while.

I don't "hate" the skepta record I just...don't think it's good at all haha

 

Do you usually listen to Grime?

 

Not usually no

 

So it could be you're listening to it with the wrong frame of reference, if that makes sense. I think it's a very good Grime album. No shots.

 

Haha no worries. I just think it's not for me. I never really got into even the acclaimed grime stuff like Dizzee. I get it's appeal and like some of it, like I like "shutdown" but I just couldn't do it with Konnichiwa as a whole. I haven't listened since it dropped to speak on it more authoritatively.

 

I understand that. I have been casualy listening to Grime since around 04 (it has always been present in Europe, unlike the US), but I don't really have a place in my life for more than one Grime album a year, haha.

 

It's been like a year and a half and Shutdown still blows me away every time. Seeing it live might have been the highlight of my summer.
