Can We Just Not Talk About Last Night just leapfrogged the other two and is now in third. Didn't love it at first (expectations might have been too high after seeing the talk about it). But it's definitely a killer tune.

That one is just so fun. I like "Spark: Lost" more overall, but I think I jammed "Can We Just Not Talk About Last Night" more than any other track this summer.

Still not sure about the graphic line in the second verse. Does that really happen during a one-night stand? I don't have the experience necessary to either confirm (and relate) or deny.

Especially when taken together with Cassette Backs, I think Butch Walker put out my favorite music of this past year. So good. I know most people think Stay Gold is absolutely perfect as it is, but there are a few gems on Cassette Backs that are just so ----ing great they definitely hold their own with any of the songs on the album.

Brian Fallon's Painkillers was pretty damn close, but I truly think a few of the songs from the Georgia EP - especially the title track - should have made the actual album and got the full Butch Walker production treatment. Georgia is such an incredible song, but the version we got on the RSD release is too weak sounding, especially in the vocals. It neuters what is otherwise a pretty powerful song. Plus - and I know this comes from being such a Brian Fallon fanboy - but the Molly and the Zombies version of Long Drives is one of the greatest songs he has ever written. I respect what he was doing with the reworking of it, and I do enjoy the album version for what it is, but he had already hit upon the perfect version of that song before reworking it in my mind.

This was the year I realized how much I am a fan of Butch Walker, whether he's making his own music or producing other artists like Brian Fallon and Frank Turner. He either made himself or had a hand in making most of the albums I like in recent memory. The guy is incredible.

Still wouldn't replace anything on Stay Gold with anything from Cassette Backs. I think Cassette Backs is great as its own thing. Plus, the best song on there is "Roll Me Out," and that wouldn't have fit very well.

Right with you! "Spark: Lost" is my go to. "Can We Just Not Talk About Last Night" is a tongue & cheek track- that is fun to play.

Spark: Lost is one of my favorite songs on here, but it bugs me how similar the chorus melody is to the title track

It's kind of like Chris Stapleton's record from last year, where "Traveller" and "Nobody to Blame" had pretty similar chorus melodies, but I hardly noticed because they're so different tonally. Kind of how i feel about "Stay Gold" and "Spark: Lost" too.

"Hey there, lovelies. On Valentine’s Day, my French pals The Dove + The Wolf (and I) are bringing you something very cool. You might remember these talented gals from when they opened for me on the Afraid Of Ghosts tour a few years ago. We went in the studio and cooked up a cover of one of our favorite 70’s soft rock slow jams by a group called 10cc and the song is called “I’m Not In Love”. This song is so good and I couldn’t be happier to share the love and collaboration! Turn it on, turn it up, turn the lights down, and fire up the incense (or just leave a re-run of the Super Bowl on in the background.. whatever gets you going). Happy Valentine’s Day, folks!

    BW + D+W = ❤️"
