it was like 2 in the morning and he was being cheeky. seems a lot of people are taking his posts more seriously than he was when he posted them.

and i mean 5 seconds of summer is huge but that doesnt mean theyre not a b-rate version of other, better pop rock bands.

I was under the impression that Chorus was meant to be a friendlier place than AP.net ever was, so it's disappointing to see Jason make posts like that. It's fine to not like something and post about it, but as others have said, his posts seemed pretty mean spirited

hes not being mean to anyone he's just giving his thoughts on an album he doesnt like. if people take criticisms of music they like personally thats on them.

It's OK to not like an album, but to go on a multi-post tirade and say something like "worse than Trump being elected" (and what about the nature and sensitivity of the topic? hyperbole doesn't justify such a comment) is too much. it doesn't have to be at the expense of other users on here who are then made to feel uncomfortable in the thread. if I don't like an album I'll say it once and say why, or I won't at all. Putting that much negative energy into something just feels silly, esp over an album. It's actually something I was hoping would stop on chorus because it was all too prevalent on APnet. It made me not want to go into threads and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's felt/feels this way.

Yeah but there's a way to discuss things, I don't think that's one of them. There's giving thoughts, and then there's...that.

that....is giving thoughts. he doesnt like the album, he said why in a cheeky sarcastic way

Sure but they certainly weren't "hurt" from being "second rate". They dominated the charts and definitely opened a market for others (ie McFly). I compared them to Blink because they're beloved in this community and Busted were originally marketed as "UK's answer to Blink 182" who is another band that gets a similar love/hate reception.

i think hyperbole is a perfectly fine way to justify that comment, its a clear joke. the entire "tirade" was far from serious, like i said people are taking his posts more seriously than he was being when he posted them. what i wanted to stop on ap was people getting mad at other people for not liking things which is what i see going on in here.

I don't think anybody IS mad at Jason for not liking it. Where is the evidence for that? It's how that's being expressed - which is a different conversation. I couldn't care less about the record at the moment as I haven't listened to it, so I don't have an opinion on it. It's how the conversation is unfolding that is clearly bothering people.

when someone goes over the top with love for something no one cares but when someone goes over the top with hate for something its like the end of the world. both ends of the spectrum are justified and welcome, its just opinions on music we're not talking about serious issues here its just music, its fine.

people have the right to express their opinions how they want to as long as they arent putting anyone down. no one's being put down. he is not targeting anyone besides the music. thats how opinions should be expressed

People are way too sensitive. If you're offended by a couple posts in a row about an album being bad I don't see how the fuck you survive in the real world. Jus sayin. Lighten up.

Love is positive and hate is negative. We're glad to see people find enjoyment in media. But someone relishing in how much they hate it, and constantly, is just weird. And it spoils an otherwise possible positive atmosphere. It just makes the thread feel awkward. You can ignore it but really, it's like OK we get it you don't like it. Once is enough no? Why go on consistently about it and then be snarky saying people are "throwing tantrums" about a so-called 'joke'? They weren't tantrums.

Jokes are supposed to be funny, anyway.

You're completely misreading the situation. I literally couldn't care less that Jason doesn't like it, it's more that his comments about why he doesn't like it weren't constructive at all. Saying stuff like "what an absolute embarrassment" and "at least that was hilarious to listen too" doesn't add anything worthwhile to the conversation, it's almost more like he was trying to bait fans of the band into getting annoyed at him. It creates an unpleasant atmosphere. I would rather see people rank Kanye albums than obnoxious posts like that, it just brings this whole forum down.

Seems they covered Cyndi Lauper 'Time After Time' live yesterday:

Matt's voice is much more on show here.

Or he was using drastic hyperbole just to have some fun and people took it way too seriously.

Positive and negative opinions are equally valid. Both should be welcome when it comes to music discussion

Why is it that negative opinions that aren't constructive are maligned more than positive comments that aren't constructive? Jason's posts were more constructive than people just saying "I love this" and nothing else

And I think if they aren't putting anyone in particular down they're being expressed just fine

It wasn't necessary. What's the point? It doesn't invite or encourage discussion and it bothers people. Nobody even really felt like asking Jason why he didn't like it, because the way he initially expressed his dislike turned people off, as evidenced by how people responded.
