They took pop punk and made a better, poppier version and I'd take this album over the new stuff from Blink, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Green Day, the list goes on. The sound theyre going for isn't original or unique but that can be said for like 90% of all music, if not more.

I don't see why a pop band being heavily influenced by other pop music is them trying to rip stuff off. James has been making synth pop for a good chunk of the last decade and Charlie spent a lot of time working with these sounds on the last Fightstar album so it feels like a pretty natural direction for them to me. Plus, again, personally the only band with a similar sound that I like more is The 1975 and even then I probably like this as much, if not more, than their debut.

Listening to this album now, and it's great. Not sure why anyone would go out of their way to listen to the new album of a band they clearly despise so much, pretty weird. I remember getting their self-titled debut and A Present for Everyone for Christmas when I was a kid (must've been 2003, I would've been 10-years-old I think, idk I'm bad at maths lol), and so they were the first two albums I ever owned. If it wasn't for them, I probably never would've listened to Green Day or blink-182, never would've found AP.net and never would've expanded my music taste into what it is today. So I owe this band a lot, even if I do prefer Charlie's other projects by quite a bit.

This album is their best effort to date though and if they make a few more like this, I can see myself listening to Busted more often. My favourite songs on here are probably "Night Driver", "On What You're On", "New York" and "Those Days Are Gone". I'm amazed at how many different genres Charlie can do, and as always, his vocals are awesome.

Also, Matt sounds so great on this album. I kinda hope he has more of a presence on the next one.

Yeah, they were my first favourite band and they got me into actually listening to music as opposed to it just being something that I hear in movies or on the radio. I also found AP.net because of a Fightstar chat so I doubt I'd be on this site if I never got into Busted, ha.

Those are my favourites too, I'm surprised at how much "On What You're On" has grown on me since I got the full album. Really love that song now. I'm excited to see what they do with their next album, whether they expand on this sound further or try something else. I didn't think Charlie had any more big surprises in him in terms of new sounds but he surprised me again on here.

Likewise. I love every small part he has, ha.

Yeah, "On What You're On" works so much better in the context of the album. It's a shame to see a couple of posters in here seemingly judging the entire record based on 1 or 2 songs they've heard. "Coming Home" in particular is very much not representative of the album as a whole, although somehow it manages to work pretty well as an opener.

If Charlie's next project is a hip-hop album, I won't even be surprised at this point, haha.

Yeah, I mean even as a huge fan I wasn't that into "Coming Home" or "OWYO" outside of the context of the album. Honestly don't really see what people would dislike about "New York" or "Night Driver" unless they just disliked this kind of music.

Even if people aren't liking it though or are only listening to the singles, I'm still glad people are checking out new Busted music, ha.

Also I've just stuck Beautiful Mess on at the end and it works really well as an encore/end credits type song after the closer.

"Beautiful Mess" is probably top three on the album for me now, why is this a japanese bonus track?!

I can see why someone who hated Busted's old music would check this out and I encourage that. I've checked out new music from bands I don't like before, some times I'm pleasantly surprised.

I think it's a pretty solid album. For sure more enjoyable than California for me.

I don't like their new sound, but that's just me. I do wonder if they messed up their chance at doing big numbers this way, given that the huge hype surrounding their comeback was nostalgia based. I hope we'll get to see some numbers.

I definitely think they would have a bigger reception if they stuck with their old sound but I don't think any of them wanted to do that, especially Charlie.

That could be, but l they did get back together as Busted, toured with their old songs and rerecorded and released an old song before putting out new music, which can be seen as an endorsement of the music Busted made before. It's fine though, they can do whatever they want, I just wonder what it means for their sales and their future.

I think that was just more of a celebration of them being back together though and giving fans a chance to go see all of those old songs before they started making new music. I feel like they'll be a lot smaller than they were which they seem to be anticipating based on the size of the venues they're playing on the tour.

If 'second rate' means being the biggest new band in their country of origin and penning multiple hits as teenagers then sign me up. They wrote better songs than Blink ever did at that age. Whilst they didn't break the US their songs helped propel artists like Jonas Brothers to superstardom in the US (ie Year 3000) nevermind their clear gateway influence for music.

Plus they've been direct about their influences for this album anyway. A lot of the songs have their own Future Boy (James) vibe, ie Kids With Computers, One of a Kind, Out of Our Minds, etc. or Once Upon A Deadman (Charlie) moreso than "ripping off" anyone else.

i dont think theyre the biggest new band in england. i mean, they're not new they just reunited right? and i dont think theyre as big as like, the 1975 are they? and better than blink as teenagers is probably the lowest bar you can possibly set for someone. (why are they being compared to blink anyway? california is garbage but that doesnt make this good)

Emery means when they first started, and they're being compared to Blink because that's one of the bands they're supposedly a second rare version of

its not weird at all. records get hype, people get curious and check them out even if they dont think it'll be their thing. its called being a music listener. i listen to albums im pretty sure i'll hate all the time just to be sure and because im curious.

well like i said thats still an extremely low bar

Yeah, I meant that about the "biggest new band" part, and that's true but Blink is one of the bands they were originally compared to. I don't know if anyone's saying they're a great band, just that "second rate version of the pop punk bands of the time" is pretty unfair

ohhh i was confused. anyway. i think it goes without saying that being a big band is not synonymous with being good

He means when they first started. They were huge, far bigger than the 1975 have ever been. Well, in the UK anyway

The tone of his posts was weird. If I don't like an album, sure, I may post about it but I won't go on a crazy rant haha
