A->B side is good.

 

For me the MWY lyrics are great when you read them, like poetry. I know it sounds weird, but in the context of the songs themselves they just seem over the top, overly descriptive and almost like they were written to sound impressive. None of it sounds genuine to me. I've tried to get into them several times, but I just can't get past that.

 

Deer leap is rly good and impermanence is splendid

 

I just don't get how a guy who writes "im still technically a virgin after 27 years. That's never bothered me before... what's maybe 50 more?" can in any way be seen as not genuine. The self awareness and willingness to self criticize he displays precedes any idea that he delivers his messages from a point of intellectual superiority.

His lyrics are every bit as endearing as they are encoded in rich metaphors.

To me not liking mewithoutYou because of that song is like not liking Thrice because of "The Lion and The Wolf". That song also spends its entire duration on a contrived, forced, animal themed metaphor... but you wouldnt use that song to judge Thrice as a whole because its not a very strong, representative or oft referenced example of the band's music OR lyrics overall. Probably one of the biggest outliers in the whole discography in both cases.

I feel like its weird to judge a band based on a song or album that almost nobody thinks is anywhere close to one of their best. At least pick a record that most MWY fans get behind (Brother, Sister is probably the best bet)

It helps me to think maybe there were 3 other band members able to offset his suck for those 3 songs. Lol
