I’ve only been into records for about a year and I’ve only been into Brand New for about a year as well. It’s hard to overstate just how sucked in to this band I’ve become over the last several months as these songs have taken on life for me. When I first gave Brand New a chance, I didn’t really understand what the hype was about. So, as I do with most things that this and other communities hold in high regard, I made myself listen to nothing but Brand New for a few days. Not to sound kooky, but something clicked and I got it. It’s been a wild last year, both in my life and in the world, and I’ve come to realize this is a fantastic band. A frustrating band from a fan’s perspective, but a fantastic band nonetheless.

I’m sure that for many on this board the connections and memories associated with this music are far stronger than my own, but that’s okay. Brand New seems to evoke emotions in people that most modern music simply does not. As a new fan, of course I don’t want the story to end so soon after its begun, but that’s okay too. At least for me, Brand New has grown to mean something to me, even in such a short time. I’ve never had the opportunity to listen to The Devil and God on a vinyl record, but this Monday I’ll get that chance. As Mondays go, this one ought to be pretty special.

I'm sure there will be a few of these today, but I really wanted to post about what TDAG means to me. It's kinda a long read, but maybe a few of you will enjoy.

I can't believe it's 10 years old tomorrow. I do hope there's something special for 10 years, but my wallet does not.

I don't remember the first time I listened to Devil and God -- there are a handful of moments i recall that could've been the first --, but I remember the first time it clicked. I was a freshman in high school, and my dad had picked me and my younger brother up from school. We drove around, looking for a place to eat, and I was lying down in the backseat. I was half asleep, only half paying attention to this album. At this point, I wasn't in love or head over heels for it, but I kept coming back to it anyway. It was a strange thing. And so I'm drifting off, because the lull of the car just does that to me, and I remember vividly "You Won't Know" just exploding and really hearing it for the first time and then it was game over. That was it. True love.

I remember I had just started dating my high school gf and I recall her playing this album on her itunes while we would hang out. I'd be like 'what is this?' and she'd be like 'oh it's the new Brand New album'. I also remember Brand New promoting this on myspace! Like cool little gifs of the artwork saying tdagarim and jesus

I remember listening to it for the first time when my preorder came to my house. It was after cross country practice but before Prison Break started.
I didn't really get it. Then the guitar from You Won't Know was stuck in my head the entire next day. I went back and loved it. I've listened to it at least once every few months since then.

driving to Nashville to see The 1975 tonight, but I started my day off by taking an hour to spin my copy of TDAGARIM and sit in silence.

    should be a great day.
