Idk, i've had thoughts about getting a handgun but just seems not worth it. we live in a perceived "bad" or at least worse area but haven't had any issues in the nearly 2 years we've lived there and we have a security system.

should probably actually do some training or go to a range at some point though

 

Yeah I feel like training would be very good before taking that next step in general or even if that next step isn't taken

 

I've only ever shot a bb gun, with my dad being a felon it's not like guns were ever a thing in my house growing up lol

its kinda fucked that columbine is like, maybe the first major news event that i have actual vivid memory of happening/following along with, i was in 5th grade. i vaguely remember the OKC bombing and my parents talking about it but columbine definitely sticks out. then the whole 9/11 thing.
