this makes no sense to me, unless you think he is a danger to re-offend. Every job has power imbalances. If you feel like he will once seek out sexually driven online relationships with girls under 18, that’s your right.

From the little I know, I don’t see a danger to society. I don’t see a debt unpaid. And I don’t see a reason not to be able to once again pursue his life long passion and earn income from it.

Out of curiosity, what kind of coach are you?

An audience is a privilege. Full stop. It doesn’t matter if he is a danger to re-offend or not. He doesn’t deserve the privilege.

I have this horrible fear this dude is a coach of some youth sports while online saying "well technically" about pedophilia

  7. He took advantage of his position as an artist and used it to exploit fans—no less, underaged fans—of his band. Fuck his 'passion'.

agreed. he has and will continue to suffer the financial consequences of a reduced audience. If they once again sell out huge venues, not everyone in there is a bad person.

Remember, the line between rehabilitation being feasible and actions being unforgivable is a personal decision we all make. Some of you speak with the bravado that those with different viewpoints are simply wrong.

thanks for the relatively level headed discourse all around. Some good points connected with me. The fans will ultimately decide if he is allowed back.

hey man, maybe there was something I missed from the OG allegations that you interpret as making him a continued danger to young girls online. But if not, it’s possible we just have different views, that’s all.

Maybe repeatedly saying you don’t see things that are obvious wasn’t the move you thought it was.

celebrity obsession is so weird. if this was a stranger you'd probably vilify him (rightfully so) but since it's the almighty singer of Brand New, it's all about forgiveness/different views

literally millions of people incarcerated that are just preemptively considered recidivists upon release but let's give paedophilic celebs a 2nd chance

did we really fast track to “it’s not technically pedophelia” this quickly.

Also people that have abused minors are generally barred from being within so many feet of minors for the rest of their lives. Playing an all ages show is just yikes given what he did

Yes, we’ll all have to draw our own line in the sand when it comes to *checks notes* sexually abusing young girls. It’s clearly a morally gray area

you’re getting snarky with me for no reason haha

I think what Jesse did is disgusting, immoral, and I will forever think negatively of him. I have not defended Jesse or his sexual misconduct toward minors. I lean on the actions of his family and friends to judge whether he is reformed, what else do we have?

I brought to question where we believe rehabilitation is possible and whether people should be given second chances. Seems like there’s a healthy divide of opinions on it. I don’t think people need ridiculed for thinking differently on his right to perform as an artist, just as much as one should be maligned for saying he shouldn’t be able to, or that it’s gross to perform.

Little concerned Coach from Boston didn't clarify. Am I gonna have to start asking people to define a pedophile before I sign up Milo for soccer?

Don’t be fucking dense. Everyone thinks his behavior was reprehensible. The debate I tried to engage, was whether we believe in someone’s right to second chances after rehabilitation. And whether we should malign those who think differently?

Rehabilitation can absolutely happen, but I don’t think giving him back the platform that he used to abuse young girls is the move

totally respect that view. I don’t believe there is a danger to reoffend, which is why I am ok with the platform being returned. But I get the unease.

if he’s not reformed, this is all a moot point and he should be in jail.
