just dropping in that the Girl Talk / Wiz Khalifa / Smoke DZA / Big K.R.I.T. album from a couple years back is really fantastic

 

This 1999 Write The Future thing went fully under my radar. Wtf at this feature list? This is insane haha

 

I don't even fully understand it to be honest. I think it's a collective at it's core and there's just a billion members?

 

I thought it was a producer album lol

Great album that is a bit overlong but worth the listen

 

From what I understand it's more of a label/curated album where 88rising as a label curated the artists and producers for the album

 

still baffled at the name 88rising

 

have to assume its for chinese marketing, they have a lot of interests over there

 

88 is "double happiness" in Chinese

 

They are an Asian American label I guess is what you could call it

 

I was not aware of this, only the obvious negative connotations, so this is interesting

 

I did a double take the first couple times I heard 88rising too

Yeah, that’s how I first heard of him unfortunately. Someone on another forum posted some clips of his songs and was immediately drawn to him. Have yet to check out his other stuff, but that one I recommended is apparently his best by far.

 

It’s also a piano reference sometimes. There’s a (Hip Hop) producer called 88-Keys and I’m pretty sure in his case it’s a reference to the piano.
