It’s not really his choice in the end, but if he made it clear how he intended his universe to work, then maybe that’s how it’s supposed to work. Or is The Batman trilogy in the DCU and we don’t see him in anything else until 2032 after Reeves is done? That makes no sense.

I still don’t actually know why this is even a conversation. They were announced as two separate things and nobody has alluded to that changing at all. Not once. Lol

I really don't think it'll be that difficult for people to be like, okay this is a different Batman. But maybe i'm expecting more.

I think it would severely lessen the impact of the tone of what Reeves is trying to do, and almost minimize its weight to an extent.

  8. I mean I get it, Reeves and Pattinson didn't start this with the intention of joining the larger DCU. That being said, I personally don't think Daredevil and Jessica Jones taking place in the same universe as Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder lessens their impact and, uh grounded-ness

But those shows were built to be into the MCU from the start, whether they’re no longer canon or not. That’s the point I’m trying to make at least. I don’t think it lessens the impact, but it completely changes the intentions they had if they change the world they’ve set up and talked about. If Reeves never went into detail about his intent then that would be a whole different story to me.

  10. Right, so you're talking more about intent than effect

I feel like it would totally change the rules of the world Batman lives and operates in. If they knew about hero’s and meta humans I imagine that would factor into unraveling mysteries and take away from the humanity of it. I think it would also shift the tone so much it would be cohesive.

trust me, I really want a Batman that investigates the supernatural, just not the Reeves verse

If Reeves’ Batman joins the DCU and the solo Batman films still only contain Batman and his rogue gallery then what’s the issue?

Will you really sit in the theater and think “damn, if I close my eyes and imagine it, I can picture getting in a taxi from Gotham and eventually reaching Metropolis. This film is tainted.”

I wouldn’t. But isn’t Batman’s rogue gallery limited in Reeves universe still? So Batman only encounters fantastical villains outside his own movies? Or does it mean we can’t see Batman in any other DCU movies until after the trilogy is over? Either way it changes the fundamentals of the universe he set up before the DCU even existed. Just do the two separate Batmen. If people struggle with it that much, then we have a lot more fucking problems to worry about than a comic book movie. lol

The thing about Batman and "fantastical" or "supernatural" villains is that he really doesn't have that many to begin with, and the ones he does are not just that way to be that way.

Like Mr. Freeze for example. You cannot make Mr. Freeze in real life. It's absolutely not possible. But his backstory as given in BTAS is one of most tragic and emotional stories in Batman's rogues gallery.

Man-Bat and Clayface have had similar approaches over the years. Killer Croc cannot exist in reality but that doesn't stop him from being an example to explore man's mistreatment and cruelty.

I don't think it's impossible to have something outside the human experience still tell a completely human story. I mean, that's Superman's whole bag.

Idk about anyone else, but I’m not saying it is impossible at all. I completely agree with you. It could and should happen. And it can happen in TBATB because the movie is still happening. Lol

Sorry, I wasn’t sure. I’m shit at explaining myself so just wanted to clarify again. Lol

Also I totally disagree that Mr. Freeze couldn’t work. I think they could come up with a spin that would work without going too far. That’s what I’d love to see at least. If his intent is really for semi realistic, I want to see them hit that edge with the characters. Let me see how far they can twist Mr. Freeze without losing the character. I guess I play loose on how fantastical an ice weapon can be. lol

I just want to see their take on the story and character. But I’d say Court of Owls is the best bet. Then have Joker in the third one. Or no main Joker role at all, I don’t care. I just don’t see them wasting Barry is all. I’d love if they just subverted expectations and never made Joker more than a prisoner Batman talks to in every movie.

How do you make Mr. Freeze grounded and realistic without making it not worth doing the character at all?

And yes, please make Joker a background character. I am sick of Joker.

That’s why I want to see it! Haha. Maybe I have too much faith in the man, but I feel like he could do it. Plus it doesn’t have to be grounded and realistic to an extreme. He said it would border on fantastical. I’m not smart enough to come up with an idea, but I think they could really push that limit and do it. You have to at least agree it’d be interesting to see the attempt.

I'm a little torn because Mr. Freeze is not a character that gets regularly adapted for things like this, so I want it to be the best possible version it can be.

That’s fair. I doubt we’d get a full Mr. Freeze movie again for a long time.

I don’t see any of the people in this thread who are being indifferent or ok with Batman being in the DCU as “struggling” with the concept of two Batman.

The consensus seems to be “if it works, okay.”

If Reeves is ok with it, I’m ok with it.
