I like this more than expected from the posts in here. Not something I am going to come back to in full, but it does have a time and a place for the moodiness, and honestly this morning as LA is burning down kinda fits the vibes.

The longer droney stuff, I likely will only listen to once or twice more in specific settings but I think there is a very repayable set of tracks within this that I will revisit often. "Etienne" is a really cool piano track that I did not expect to hear after the 15 min droney track preceding it. Next time I listen, it's going to be this:

    1. Punish
    2. Vacillator
    3. Onanist
    4. Etienne
    5. Amber Waves

    41 minutes

I didn't even know it came out today, I thought it had already been out and I was late. I also didn't look at the thread title at all because I am more dumb

I enjoyed this more than I was expecting. I think some of the early reactions were a little overstated. It's pretty clearly an EPs worth of new Ethel Cain songs that are slightly more ambient, but not the huge departure that's going to turn off all her fans that was described. They're going to listen to the 4ish """"real"""" songs and ignore the 10 minute interludes, just like I'm going to do.

But I'm glad I listened in full, and I'm sure I will again, at least a handful of times.

Off topic but I wonder if digital releases HAVE to come out on Friday for some reason or if acts are able to stagger them. If I was an act with a big release coming out on the same day as my competitor, would try to get it out a few days early for extra engagement.

I imagine a lot of it has to do with maximizing opportunities for the charts or whatever. I don't think any releases are required to come out on a certain day of the week but I'm sure lining it up with Friday allows the best results for charting

I made all of that up since I don't really know what the charting window is but I imagine it's accurate even though it came out of my ass

Yeah I'm a firm believer that artists should release things whenever because that makes the fan experience way more fun but I totally get why artists wouldn't

you are correct, charting week is Friday to Friday, so Perverts will only get 3 days of tracking but she obviously doesn't, and shouldn't, care.

Back in my day, music releases were Tuesdays in the US but international releases were Fridays, this is back before digital music. Once iTunes came along, the fact that albums would be released on different days around the world led to more piracy for the countries that the album was not yet released. Because of this, the worldwide release day became Fridays so that music was released internationally at the same time.

    I do not exist.

UK was Monday when you guys had Tuesday. Our chart show was Sunday night.

I think having a universal release date has worked well and that piracy factor definitely made it necessary.

    idk man

Yeah this album ep project whatever it is it rocks. Honestly thought it was going to be more harsh, kinda expected at least three more pulldrones. I love the beautiful songs like Vacillator and Amber Waves but I think in the scope of the project Thatorchia is the best song. It combines all the elements that Perverts promised into one hauntingly visceral ambient track.

Really enjoyed this. Haven't really been in the mood for long albums (took like an hour break before returning to it), but this hit for me. Not sure how often I'll go back to some of these songs, but I can appreciate what she's doing here. Closing track is gorgeous. Ethel needs to score a horror film sometime

I found this to be not only better than I was expecting it to be based on the reaction but also better than Preacher's Daughter which I was mostly bored by, think she does it better for me in this lane for whatever reason

  25. 13-minutes of analog horror sound collage and then shit like "I could make you cum 20 times a day" over dark ambient guitars has me ascending lmao, whoever said it was Chelsea Wolfe-adjacent is spot on. A little bit of Nicole Dollanganger and Grouper as well
