I’ve been listening to Mac Miller a lot lately to get excited for ballonerism.

I have to say I didn’t realize how incredible his work ethic was. I started to dig into his older stuff and then his production side and then another one of his alter egos.

It also has me wondering just how much the estate really has to release since I’ve seen at least a few more fan created albums of pure leaks.

they could keep releasing albums made of leaks for years, but whether they will is another matter. Circles and Balloonerism were mostly finished and he wanted to release them, most of the other leaks were scrapped or never finished

on another note I'm seeing The Roots tonight (great!) and I am deathly hungover (bad!). now I understand why concerts on January 1st are rare lmao

I don't remember all the finer details of last night's show because I took an edible, greened the fuck out and thought I was dying lmao. I do know there was what felt like a 15-minute jam of You Got Me which was absolutely sick and when I left they were jamming on Immigrant Song for some reason (they were a whole helluva lot more jammy than I was expecting but it ruled). was entirely gone for most of Talib Kweli's set but I caught him playing Respiration by Black Star which kicked ass. high quality experience, would not ever do it again

I know this conversation has been had in here a couple of times recently but I have literally almost completely given up on trying to follow Boldy James even though I've loved a lot of his music. There's such a thing as releasing too much imo

If he was dropping an 80-minute thing every time it would bug me, but each album is tight and contained and focused. Future and Taylor Swift probably dropped about the same amount of music as Boldy last year if we're going by runtime (and his stuff isn't imposed on me like TS is ha)

EDIT: I forgot about Mixtape Pluto. Future dropped way more music by minute than Boldy did in 2024 ha. I definitely did not listen to all of that.

Yeah I do struggle to keep up, but when I get around to listening to them Boldy’s projects are always solid

I think his projects being “solid” is what does it for me. If each release was a bit better than solid, I’d be all over them. But he hasn’t had a release (prior to these three that I haven’t listened to of course) that’s really stood out for a couple of years now IMO. Super Techmo Bo was the last truly great Boldy album.

Gave the new Boldy a go and couldn’t finish it. It wasn’t bad, it was just really uninteresting. He sounds bored, the beats were average and some of the features were awful.

He desperately needs some quality control
