I posted on the Weezer boards and joined their street team. Got two vinyl copies of the Red Album in exchange for several five-star reviews on different platforms.

I started out on the Further Seems Forever message board and then moved to ap.net from there. The FSF board was just as awful and cliquey as everyone else here has said about other bands. The shit people said about Jon Bunch was fucking horrendous, especially now when we know how his story ends. Sometimes I still hope those people feel some modicum of shame for how they treated him and anyone who wasn't part of their clique. Guess it was just that old world, lawless Wild West of early internet where anyone could be a dick and mental health wasn't prioritized the way it is now. Obviously you can still find it basically everywhere (hello, Reddit, Twitter/X, etc.), but there are also way more people who will push back now and say that that's not okay.

John // OC now, OH forever.

One of the greatest mysteries. A few people met him in person, so he’s at least real.

I’m guilty of being a shithead on there. That board (and AP, actually) legitimately changed my life. I met my now wife there, I sold shirts for Takeover on Warped, AP posted about Smartpunk hiring in CA, and the rest is history. I still keep up with around 20 of us from the General Chat. My 7 year old asked me the other day if I liked the song that was playing in his Roblox game and I was floored when I recognized it was an 8 bit version of “only one”.

    The internet is wild.

Started my posting career, briefly, on the Alternative Press message boards which were awful lol. Somebody there linked to an AP thread which I clicked on and was like “oh this is way better”, made the switch and never looked back.

I don’t think I’ve experienced a more unhinged swing of Internet personalities than following the evolution of what the main weezer board is since like 2002

I don't remember much of my AP.net days but my username was definitely different because I chose to be a bit more "me" on here (although I've considered changing that) and I know I was a shithead on AP.net and also on here at times. But I love you all, think almost all of you are pretty rad and I love having this little piece of the internet to talk about music in a way that isn't, well, like reddit.

Hell, before I completely bailed off Twitter, Jason had blocked me. I can't recall why, I was very like a fucking dick. Jason, I love you now and I'm sorry for whatever it is I did.

I've been on and off message boards for a long time.

I started on the Penny-Arcade message boards until a bunch of us got tired of the moderators and formed our own floating island we called Torch The Bridge because we were collectively dumb as bricks. It eventually imploded as we both became directionless and embarrassed about our behavior.

Then I found myself on the message boards of the band Earshot, where their lead singer Wil Martin was accusing a rock news site called AudioAggression of fabricating a story that the band had broken up. It turned out to be technically true, although they quickly reformed.

Out of a mixture of curiosity and sympathy, I explored and subsequently joined the AudioAggression forum, and stayed there as its ownership separated and became Tunelab, and then changed ownership completely and became Alternanoise.

In its final days, seeking new spaces, I came here. I had followed news through the AP days and joined this forum briefly to discuss Lost, but it wasn't until the fall of Alternanoise and the rise of Chorus that I became a full-fledged participant.

The timing may be a little off here and there, but that's pretty much my story.

They sound that way in all their songs but Get Away definitely had a very Maynard vocal tone in the chorus and I can't help but feel that was calculated.
