What do you think of the All-Star Superman run that (I think) this is partially based on? Not sure if Gunn pulled directly from it or if he only used the art for inspiration.

Given what All-Star Superman is, I think it’s probably an inspiration more than a book that’s being adapted. (And I suspect that Morrison’s work in general is an influence, not just All-Star.)

As for what I think. All-Star Superman is my favorite DC Comics superhero comic of all time, lol. 12 issues by Morrison and Frank Quitely, just absolutely nailing the tone of modern Supes for me.

It’s on my list for the holiday season. I’ve read many Superman issues, but have never went through an entire run. Thanks for helping it be pushed towards the front of my list

Some takeaways from a recent Q&A

    • What can we expect from the new Superman?

We can expect a Superman who is about the compassion of the human spirit, a Superman who is about kindness, love and compassion, while also being a very strong character. He is the best of humanity, even though he is an alien from outer space.

    • Speaking of vulnerable, I love the opening shot of this teaser trailer where he’s at his most vulnerable. I’ve never seen a Superman or comic book movie teaser start in that way—to put the hero in that place. And I thought that was such an interesting decision.

I think it was. It shows us what we’re kind of dealing with here. We’re dealing with Superman, this symbol of really old-fashioned values and hope, and it’s an idea that’s been a bit battered over the years. Both that sort of concept of Superman and the concept of just kindness in general. And I think that this is about letting that be what it is, and allowing those traditional values to, manifest themselves in a completely new way.

    • How will you explore Clark Kent’s humanity in this film?

I think that’s all the movie is about. This movie is about Clark Kent’s humanities. Yes, he’s an alien from another planet who’s super powerful, but he is also deeply, deeply human. He has emotions and feelings, and he, you know, every day he wakes up and tries to make the best choices he can, and sometimes he fails, and that’s what this movie is about.

This is about a complex character, and I think that’s the thing that audiences are going to be completely surprised by. That you can’t really see in the trailer, is these complex relationships between Clark and Lois and Lex and Clark, and how they interact, and the different values they have and how they, you know, strengthen each other and make each other weaker.

I’m 100% down with comic book films no longer feeling obliged to contain post credit scenes.

It was fun during MCU phase 1 because it was the first time we could see such puzzle pieces being connected. That time has passed.

  16. Honestly this is a great opportunity for them to set themselves apart from Marvel and not to post-credits scenes. The old DC universe copied that and it was never good, and it just got old overall.

Do a little intro mini film like Pixar, an animated complementary comic strip, something cool during the actual credits, idk.

Really. You're going to go on record that all of those films were fine except for the post credit scenes?

I have noticed that I see a lot of cross-over in characteristics between very online DCEU/Snyder fans and very online horror fans, in that many of them are completely fine if the movie is terrible so long as it achieves 2-3 specific things or moments that they like. Conversely, a really terrific, well-made film in their favorite genre can be considered awful if it does not contain those 2-3 specific things or moments they look for.

Someone had themselves a Kraven-Nosferatu double feature, am I right? Krosvenatu.

The biggest problem with the MCU connectivity was how could they make people care after Endgame wrapping up that story and Disney could not figure out how to keep people interested beyond that. Like you’re doing a multiverse storyline and so far, you tried to establish the next big bad and then scrapped it because the actor was a piece of shit and somehow you couldn’t think to just replace his ass, none of the current storylines connect to each other, you decided to give Black Widow a movie after her character was yeeted off a cliff in Endgame, and I don’t know what the fuck that Thunderbolts movie is but that ain’t it.
