I will be surprised if they dont get them

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

I only have two predictions so far:

    1. Rilo Kiley- Leaked to be a TBA band on Kilby. Would be more in line with Riot

    2. The Dismemberment Plan- Played a handful of reunion shows this year and didn’t hit Chicago. Mentioned on a recent Instagram post that they’re “scheming” for 2025

TV on the Radio? Playing reunion shows, no Chicago so far and played Riot in 2017. I would have bet them being on Pitchfork, but not anymore

Also, hopefully this is the year they get Knocked Loose and Poppy

  4. Yes please to both. Figured Pitchfork would get RK if it was still going on, but since it's not I think they do Riot or just their own show at Salt Shed.

With the recent Steel Train reunion they have to be at least possible, right? Assuming they do more shows, that is.

There was a Steel Train reunion?

They reunited two days ago at the Ally Coalition’s Talent Show.

I think that Sex Pistols reunion is extraordinarily likely. They wouldn't be a headliner, though, right? I'd have them pegged as closing out a stage but would strike me as the band that goes on right before the headliner rather than closing out the evening...

Based on their placement on other feats I would assume they’d be like 2nd or, more likely, 3rd on their respective day.

    Breaking it down by categories

the same bands I predict every year (and am wrong every year). They’ve gotta play someday.
    -Green Day
    -Reel Big Fish
    -Agent Orange
    - 3 Six Mafia

    the staples
    -Rise Against
    - Bad Religion
    - Underoath

bands that I could’ve sworn would play last year
    - Cap’n Jazz
    - Knocked Loose
    - Wu Tang Clan

    recent reunions
    - The almost Sex Pistols
    - Drop Dead Gorgeous
    - Cobra Starship

Undercard act that will be surprising in a few years
    - Jack Kays

the “I never pictured them playing riot fest” acts
    - Orville Peck
    -moe.
    -Femtanyl

the undercard acts that will end up being the deciding factor in me attending
    - camp trash
    - driveways
    - end it
    - the hated
    - spaced

Driveways would be fun at Riot.

I would add Spanish Love Songs as an act in the "They gotta play someday" category.

Recent reunions that would fit at Riot: Candy Hearts, Hey Monday and Jacks Mannequin

Okay yeah ditto SLS. I’ve been getting back into them hard recently. Guess I didn’t realize they haven’t played yet

There's such a big question mark around Reel Big Fish. From what I can glean, the key members of that band get along just fine still... It's just that Aaron got a sense of what "real life" was like during COVID (e.g., not touring 9-12 months out of the year) and isn't ready to jump back in yet. But I could see festivals being a nice way to get going again. Especially since they've taken some time off they could probably get a better slot, more money, etc.

Another 3rd wave ska band that tends to come up in these conversations is Dance Hall Crashers. Like RBF, all the members are getting along just fine... But as per a recent interview with Karina? It's still pretty unlikely. They field offers every year and it's really more about the "opportunity" than the money for them. The way Karina phrased it is that if they ever got a once in a lifetime opportunity "like doing a festival with Devo in Japan" they'd do it. But that opportunity hasn't come up yet.

And, yeah, Riot Fest could give them an opportunity to share the stage with cool bands. But it's not the "free vacation" vibes that Japan would give. Haha.

Speaking of, Im surprised Goldfinger has not played Riot before as well. And I guess its about time for Social Distortion to play again.

Add MxPx to this list of “never played, surprisingly” bands (although we know why it’s the case)

They really aren’t. They never played when it was in a bunch of random venues around the city. Since it’s moved outside and into a 3 day fest they’ve only played 4 times and the 4th time was a last minute add.

they are already out anyways. They are touring with papa roach next year and have a Chicago show the week after riot fest and dates riot weekend

underoath is also out. They are on the same tour

I posted this after Riot 2022 but I thought it needed an update. The bands that have played Riot the most (just counting Chicago and not counting aftershows, just the proper festival)

Gwar, 11 times since 2012 (didnt played 2023)
Taking Back Sunday, 9 times since 2013 (didnt played 2016, nor 2023)
Andrew WK, 9 times since 2012 (MIA since 2022)
    Pennywise, 7 times since 2010
    Descendents, 7 times since 2011
Lawrence Arms, 7 times since 2009
NOFX (RIP), 6 times since 2009
Teenage Bottlerocket, 6 times since 2008
Alkaline Trio, 6 times since 2009
Bad Religion, 5 times since 2010
Gogol Bordello, 5 times since 2012
Mighty Bostoness (RIP), 5 times since 2008
    7 Seconds, 5 times since 2006
    Bayside, 5 times since 2013
Less Than Jake, 5 times since 2010
Bouncing Souls, 5 times since 2005

4 times: Rise Against, Flaming Lips, New Found Glory, ALL, Rancid, AntiFlag (RIP), Dropkick Murphys, The Story So Far, The Wonder Years, Skating Polly, The Bronx, The Menzingers.

Not sure if Im missing someone

Good on you for putting this list together! Less Than Jake has also played 5 times since 2010. And the Bouncing Souls have played five times too going back to 2005.

Having one or two of the indoor festivals under your belt really bumps up the numbers for some of these bands... If you take out the pre-2012 years both 7 Seconds and the Souls would be at 2!

    Thanks! I added LTJ with 5 but I just found 4 times + 1 after show for Bouncing Souls (05, 10, 14, 18)

And yeah, I noticed some bands played multiple sets on the early days but decided to count just as one per edition, the same way I just counted NOFX playing 3 sets this year as one, or TBS playing a second set in 2015. It was quite confusing ngl haha

The Souls were also on 2008. Just before the Larry Arms on the poster!

Surely Alkaline Trio is one of them.

    As for the other two…

    Green Day? Blink?

Interesting! Alkaline Trio comes to mind, obviously. But I'm wondering if this hint also covers other acts? Like that there's going to be three three-piece bands?

(Obviously there could be more. But three notable ones... Green Day, Blink-182, Muse, Vampire Weekend, Jawbreaker, MxPx and a bunch of others I'm sure would fit this category.)
