it's not about Jesse at this point

it's about the fanbase, and how they care more about a reunion than the experiences of the accusers, to the point where the accusers are still being mobbed

collectively acknowledging that what JL did was fucked up is a prerequisite to any kind of accountability or making amends, yet we aren't even there yet. as long as there are fans that are still victim blaming, it's inappropriate for them to come back, no matter how much internal work he's done. it's literally not about him or his personal relationship with harming others, unfortunately. this is about power.

Not one single other band member said anything when it happened. What exactly can they do to fix it now? They cowered, hid for years, and they still haven’t said shit. I don’t think they can earn a way back that would ever be sincere imo. They showed the type of people they are. I don’t care if they consider Jesse their best friend or even a brother, the frontman of THEIR band did disgusting shit, using his power from the band, and they just dipped out without a word. I don’t think Jesse is the only one that has to show they deserve a chance to come back. Which they don’t.

I had no idea he passed away from cancer. I always assumed because of the secrecy that he had taken his own life. Not that it’s any of my business, but I was always kinda curious what actually happened and never saw anything about it. Just so sad either way.

That's about where I stand. All of them had the luxury of disappearing after Science Fiction and not saying a word besides Jesse's statement. Like, if there was ever a time to not try and be all mysterious, that was it. They completely failed, continue to collect their checks from merch and music and allowed people to be harassed by their fans. They deserve no platform.

NGL I had the same assumption, especially as I think I remember reading he (they?) were a trans teen living in a state that has been fucking ruthless to trans people in recent years. It felt like another case in a long history of that happening. But fuck man, childhood cancer aint any easier. Can't imagine going through that shit.

Oh yeah I didn't hear about that part. I really only based it on how secretive they were about it. Even when Andrea would bring up their charity for Miles, it never alluded to anything at all really. But again, not my place, so maybe it's neither and we'll never know for sure. Nor do we really need to obviously.

My bad I didn’t pay attention to the dates. She WAS being attacked for it right after she did it 5 months ago.

Related to a post a saw a few pages back.. admittedly, i have zero knowledge of how streaming services work. Had no clue that music I’ve owned for years on iTunes now counts as streaming plays for the artists through Apple Music. I guess it’s not as easy as, “well I haven’t paid for anything so I’m not supporting “insert artist” anymore.

If it's any consolation, streaming payments are a total joke. The amount you are materially supporting bands whose shows you don't attend or merch you don't buy is basically nothing.

Might sound wild but feels like all this energy to try to discuss and exonerate Jesse could be used towards other prevailing stuff, I dunno

Yeah I definitely remember the guitar lessons thing and maybe a screen shot of Andrea’s IG or something regarding it? Maybe I’m thinking of the tweet though

She wiped her socials for a bit, and went away, and someone on Reddit said that was the reason why. It was later revealed that it was likely due to the death of their son. If there is actually proof of the guitar lesson thing I’d love to see it, but there was a Reddit comment and then a tweet that mentioned exactly what the Reddit comment said.

The Brand New discourse is reminding me that I The Mighty’s singer, who had many allegations of grooming and sexually assaulting teenage fans against him at the time, also started doing guitar lessons after laying low.

I became aware of it because for some reason he started posting on the band’s socials recently. I saw the band pop up on my Facebook feed out of nowhere which I found very odd after so long. Hope he’s not attempting a comeback but nothing surprises me anymore. Pretty sure I saw him hint at it in a comment of a fan saying something like “new I The Mighty??” as well.

  25. Oh and I don’t think there’s enough talk about how when abusers end up coming out mostly unscathed, or are even able to get their platform back… well that emboldens other abusers as well. I feel like I rarely see anyone lay it out like that.
