I think they're a very "of their time" band if that makes sense; there's nothing that stands out about them, but I thought that record was really catchy. That remix for "Pace Yourself" that Patrick Stump did is god awful though.

Kicking out a member for stealing from the band and spending it gambling is hilariously on brand for a band from Vegas.

I’ve never heard of that before but that really is hilariously on brand lol

According to their Wiki, the guy trying to weasel his way into TSL by bashing Tom quit The Higher because their guitar player was claiming he wrote all the songs and later was found to be stealing from the band to gamble. I laughed.

I picture some dude in skinny jeans mumbling to video poker about “don’t you people know who I am” and the server being completely lost.

It’s a recent thing. I have a playlist of the set list I saw in June of this year and it was there in July and maybe even early August.

Tom sounded great on those live albums. The whole band sounded great.

I've always liked Tom's drumming, but it's precisely because the things he does are a little odd. It's a double-edged sword. He's not the most technical and does things his own way so I can see how proficient drummers would view him as "not very good". BUT the way he plays serves the songs so well which is the important thing.

I'm not a great drummer, but I can play all of TSL's stuff. So it's not technically difficult....but at the same time, he's been one of the most influential drummers to me from a songwriting perspective.

absolutely stoked for the shows this weekend.

it'll be my first time spending 3 days-ish in Philly, anyone recommend things to do or places to eat near the venue?

I’d do anything if they just did a proper tour with a Texas stop.

If I was anywhere near Philly - I’d absolutely go. Menu looks solid and I’m a big time fan of Yip in general.

Yeah I’m hoping to make it over there sometime eventually. Just don’t really have the money to eat out right now. Lol

    Thoughts on night one:

Show was absolutely packed, we were quite close to the front of the stage, and the sound for every band other than All Get Out was just off, like the guitars were nowhere near present enough in the mix, and it was really messing with the vibe of some songs (to me)

AGO, TEN, and TSL absolutely brought it though, an incredible lineup with great energy from all three bands.

TSL played two new songs - Blame and a new one called Granted.

setlist was wonderful as usual, but had a few notable omissions (Direction and Bedroom Talk seemed obvious, but a lot of others I was hoping for, like Photography). So I’m hoping that means the set tomorrow night will be different and throw those and more in.

overall very happy to be here, but planning to hang further back tomorrow to see if it sounds better in the room.

I started downstairs and ended up heading upstairs during TEN. Definitely sounded better further from the stage.

I agree with the sound being a little wacky. Pretty sure Ace’s guitar wasn’t even working for the first 2-3 songs. But the energy was off the charts.

We flew in from KC and we just bought tickets for night two on a whim. Why not, right?

    Thoughts on night two:

Sound in the room is definitely better farther from the stage, but honestly still left a bit to be desired in terms of balance and consistency between bands.

All of the bands killed it tonight, the standouts being Days Away and TSL of course. Days Away are incredible and I really hope they play more shows next year and consider writing new music - just getting to watch Tim play the drums is wild.

Days Away even pulled out songs from the EP before Mapping, which I did not expect at all.

TSL set was slightly different, they played Luck and Direction tonight, which was great. It’s hard to say I’m “disappointed” at all, because it was totally worth it overall, but I would have loved for more BOaTS in the set.

wonderful trip, wonderful shows, see you next year (probably)
