I feel like there's a market for a music site that doesn't do end of year lists but looks at other end of year lists and says "wow this list sucks am I right"

It's kinda funny watching someone workshop their shitposts. Can't even image Murphs drafts folder.

 

Sean going to an open mic at 1:30 am to be like "So uhhh slat wall"

One time I did an open mic and there was a guy doing a bit about monkeys, his entire 15 minute bit was just talking about the habits of monkeys and about them liking bananas and stuff

I went to the same open mic 3 months later and the exact same guy was doing the exact same monkey bit

 

I bet if I went this week he'd be there again

I'm not even sure there were jokes in the bit honestly he was just listing monkey facts

 

sounds pretty cool to be honest, I never had the balls to actually get up at an open mic and do stand up but some of the ones I went to were rooooough.

 

One guy kept calling me punk rock Tom Brady but he said it a few too many times so people stopped laughing.

 

I've done a few, they're brutal. I liked actually performing and it is really scary to do but what made me not really want to keep doing it is the politics of it. You pretty much have to force yourself to be a regular or you end up playing at 2am every set because even if you sign up early you'll get bumped for club regulars and I just didn't have it in me to show up every single week while having to find a sitter for the kids and stuff just to make it happen

 

I did 1 actual paid set and I killed (I never killed at open mics I sucked there) but I just kinda lost the desire to keep going after that

 

yeah that along with being in Pittsburgh and I just never attempted it but still kinda bummed I never did. I still write “jokes” in my notes app though.

 

i give anyone who can do that immense credit even if they blow it lol

i know im pretty naturally funny (shut up grant, pat, max, dylan, josh, grimace, spiff and mark) but i dont think i could ever do that.

a friend of mine does it from time to time and hes pretty good but, yeah not for me.

 

Enough about you....how was the monkey guy doing? Getting laughs? Or what?

A tough thing about comedy too is that most people who do comedy are complete assholes (which I guess most people could probably figure, it comes with the territory of doing such an often cynical art form)
