My mom was in her union as I was growing up so I already had favorable views of unions. I know we learned about unions in US history but that’s back when we taught it in 9th grade, so I don’t remember anything standing out about how my I think moderate Republican 9th grade teacher taught them. Just remember learning about Pullman strikes and etc.

I do remember learning about Sacco and Venzetti too, that stands out. I don’t remember much about what my teacher said at the time but do remember it being framed like they were bad guys/criminals, but might have been falsely accused and actually didn’t do it they just were Italian immigrants who were anarchists and that was two things a lot of people didn’t like at the time and etc

 

My high school history teacher was one of the local teacher's union leaders so he would tell us nothing but good things about unions.

can you give a quick little rundown of what's happened in South Korea over the past 24 hrs from your perspective?

 

because that’s how it gets presented by people here, as a reason to not focus or talk about the terrible leadership they’ve had and the decisions those leaders have made. Meanwhile other folks are saying yes imperialism/anti communism definitely plays a role.

 

If I was DPRK leadership everything would be much better. For instance, we’d have troops in Gaza and the Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza instead of Russia.

I always joke that Daley-era Chicago corruption via patronage was a better model for government than whatever we have now, where there’s still corruption but also nothing gets done for people’s benefit.

 

my dad is in the UAW so I never had bad opinions on unions unlike @Max_123

 

I didn't have a bad opinion of them (more of a non-opinion at the time) I just recall being taught anti-union stuff in public school lol
