Agreed... The only reason I'm not allowed to work from home is sunken cost into a new building. (That was FULL, and is now barely 20% due to cutbacks - again because of cost overrun on the building).

For marketing, I find that it's still 75% remote/23% hybrid/2% on-site still. Remote is great until you realize it ups the difficulty of finding a new job in a shitty economy as you're competing with everyone else in the country who wants to WFH.

The only argument I've ever seen for RTO that wasn't some company-mandated shit, was how WFH does fuck over all the restaurants and businesses that exist that suddenly can't afford to stay open. Hit the FiDi area in SF really hard.

Here in Norway the argument to come into work is much easier, as most people are in reach of public transport, and my company has its own canteen/kitchen, so for roughly $80 a month they provide us lunch every single day. Plus, they have a fridge fully stocked with various yogurts every day, fresh fruit, nuts, etc, so essentially getting breakfast and lunch for free; main thing keeping me coming into the office really.

Flip side is the pay is shit at my job, so planning on finding another job/company next spring.

The institution i work for allows 50% wfh per week. I actually go to the office 4 days a week. Too much wfh kinda effs me up. The second lockdown here in Germany during the pandemic kinda killed my brain and now when i wfh for too long it's rly bad for my mental health...

I am all for wfh tho, just not for me

the most toxic work environments I've worked in have been entirely work from home, but I can also just see that being the company culture and not a WFH specific issue. That said, I do think there's something to be said about actually meeting the people you work with in real life

I’ll never be able to work from home in my career field but it just seems like so a no brainer for office jobs. Covert the offices into housing, maybe keep a few levels for hybrid/in person meetings, etc

I've said it before, but for my own mental health, I think being in the office sometimes is a net positive for me. We have to go in twice a week, but can choose which days, and I'll even sometimes just go home for lunch and work a half day from home.

Over the pandemic I got pretty depressed and only ever went out for necessary errands, otherwise just hung around in my pajamas all day. Being mandated to go into the office brings a nice change of scenery, the social aspect is nice, and it makes me feel like less like a lazy slob lol. I have a lot of difficulty motivating myself to actually get up and go out, even though I'm usually glad when I actually do, so it helps. Plus I am WAY more productive in the office.

I would absolutely hate having to be in office 5 days a week, though.

I get this. It’s easy for me to not leave the house for days at a time lol. Side note, my girlfriend’s been a little worried that I have no one to talk to since the election, until I showed her this thread. Little did she know I have a whole community of doom scrolling freaks to keep me company on here!

I work from home (Finance/Accounting) full time.

I Thought I Could claim expenses on my taxes but I guess the feds say we cannot. I save on wear/tear on car, tolls, gas, etc...

Wife (And daughter #3 , who I pay for her car...) are teachers so gone from 7-3. Im working til end of day.

In the summer, another story, but for now, and in the past, its been fine. Teams handles everything I need.

If I need face to face meetings during budget season, I go in to the office. a few times a year, no big deal.
