To justify using those apps from a worker solidarity perspective, you have to tip doordash workers like twice what you tip restaurant workers, and it just does not make sense economically at all

 

Doordash literally steals your tip from them by reducing their base pay by whatever you tipped them, they don’t actually make extra
money from the tip unless you tip more than base pay

But people never boycotted Amazon when they were monopolizing entire industries and busting unions so how can I expect people to boycott food delivery apps

people like small amounts of personal convenience more than they care about worker solidarity, it’s the American way

Boycotting their web services is impossible cause they monopolized that industry too much, you can’t have internet without AWS

but imo that doesn’t make it pointless to boycott other avenues they make money, it would still make a difference if more of us committed to it

We're trying to uber eats less, because it's so expensive. But with a newborn, sometimes the convenience is just too important. (Reminder, I have kids in case posters forgot)

I do make it a point to tip 25% or more for the driver, and to never ever file a complaint or request for help or whatever if an order is wrong.

The most politically conscious people I know still buy stuff from Amazon every week because they’re so pervasive, it definitely is an act of rebellion in modern consumerist society to avoid them at all costs

 

A lot of companies are shitty but they have rigged entire supply chains of information that everyone in the world relies on. It is not a joke Amazon legitimately owns an important piece of international infrastructure and has made a mockery of anti trust laws and labor laws in court, they are horrible

 

And here’s the REALLY uncomfortable truth for a lot of people: Google has been just as bad as Amazon the last 10 years and what started as an altruistic means of spreading knowledge and intelligence to all of society, now exclusively serves the interests of big business and has played an enormous hand in eroding away our right to privacy and to personal copyright, by arguing in court that the internet has different rules of engagement than real life.

 

Companies that big can literally buy laws and policy in their favor because the people’s interests can’t compete with the money they can raise and how long they can drag out court appeals until they get a favorable ruling etc… and that’s one big pillar of why I don’t believe America actually is a free country
