Watched the first movie Wednesday night and saw this last night.

Everything about this one is worse, but I didn’t dislike it. I do agree that some of the younger actors don’t have the juice that made the first one work.

The fights aren’t as good here either and I could be wrong but it felt like there was less of them? Or they were shorter?

I give it 2.5/5. Perfectly average film.

 

It's been a long time since I've seen the 1st one, but I felt like this one had more fights than the first, haha. But obvi could be wrong

 

I have dozens of problems with this movie but I certainly had a good time watching it. It’s pretty empty though - like Gladiator is melodramatic but all its tearjerking moments are genuinely affecting. This movie has many similar “big sad/tragic events” that don’t make you feel a thing.

I know the Mescal performance has led a lot of people to the “he’s an actor not a movie star” take but I think the movie just didn’t set him up to succeed. Basically it’s not a serious film, and he’s stuck in the grave serious half of the story while Denzel and the freak brothers get to be in the fun trashy movie this actually is.

 

Took awhile to get going and very messy. That baboon scene was truly god-awful as well as a lot of the other effects; Nielsen’s performance just as bad. Needed way more Quinn.

 

Liked it a bunch!

Denzel is on another level from everyone else though

 

This was okay. The writing was messy. The movie just didn’t feel coherent. I liked Denzel’s acting when he was serious, but this movie was goofy at times.

Yeah it was fun. Denzel was good but definitely was distracting at times. I felt like even though it was short the water battle in the colosseum was hype.

 

Definitely a mess towards the end and Paul my guy you gotta yell louder.

 

This was okay.

 

This ended up making $100 million more worldwide opening weekend than Wicked did. Domestically it might struggle though

 

People in costumes would have been better than those monkeys.

 

People complain about the baboons but I didn’t feel they were that bad.

Really enjoyed this. I liked it more than the original and Paul definitely has the juice.

Just felt at times when he was being motivational he wasn’t projecting enough so everyone could hear him. Like the last battle. There’s no way those soldiers on horses could hear him Grim.

 

And he's saying they were terrible actors.

 

I think the soldiers can read lips so they got what he was saying.
