Almsot definitely oversimplifying this or flat out explaining it wrong lol, is covid is having a hard time mutating a new dominant strain right now because all the single mutations that could do it, based off the current structure of the spike protein, would either 1. Effect its ability to adhere to the cells in our body that it likes to attach to to enter our bodies (ACE2), or 2. Would actually make it more susceptible to neutralizing antibodies because of the position of the full spike protein on the virus (or something like that)


Seems like they expect it will eventually figure this problem out and mutate again, as it has in the past, but, for now? Fingers crossed
