  1. Honest question because I haven't seen it, was she the lead role? Did she get first billing? Most screen time? Was the movie about her character or was she only there for the sake of Leo's character development?

The Rock is the most shameless person alive.

It is an ensemble piece but she probably has the second most screen time other than DiCaprio, and without going too deep into the plot it is she who drives the ending.

If Kidman had said female lead it would have been one thing, but the way she phrased it plays into this stereotype that Scorsese movies are all men all the time.

Eh, I understood what she meant while also understand there are women in Scorsese movies.

It’s just a little weird cause Scorsese has made as many or more features about women than some of the other directors she named

Anderson has never had a woman as the sole lead. Neither has Jonze. It's something you can't really blame one director on.

I believe he wasn't comparing Red One to Oppenheimer in terms of quality but more like talking about Red One is gonna look great on IMAX that's all. Reading some of the comments.. people r just reaching and finding ways not to like the guy.

He says Red One is going to be game over. If you are going to be a hack who appears in awful movies, just own it. You don't have to pretend you are making art. I am one of the biggest Nolan critics around and Nolan's worst films are better than anything The Rock has been in in a long time.

I think the whole Black Adam debacle really took a major hit career wise and the 4 quadrant stuff he's put out in recent years... Including Red One have not been working, Moana 2 is gonna be a massive hit but I hope The Smashing Machine will be the start of a reinvention of his acting career and he said in the big GQ piece he did a few days ago the making of that film has gave him the bug to do more character driven roles which involved him a disappearing into a role like he did playing Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine.

The Rock’s corporate Hollywood marketing brain, through a WWE filter, is so funny to me. The press around Black Adam is some of the most entertaining work he’s done in the past decade.

In the GQ feature Emily Blunt has said that DJ seemed to be not been happy of doing these type of films for a good while and wants to do something different and challenge himself acting wise. Which makes me assume that his team around him r a bunch of yes people and only want him to do those type of films for the big pay check and not telling him to try to challenge himself and do character driven roles instead.

The Rock (and Ryan Reynolds) basically do movies to draw awareness to their other brands, like their cell phone company or alcohol or whatever else they are trying to sell.

Movie stars of his caliber should do some smaller films once in a while. It becomes a lot easier for some young director with one or two independent films to get funding for their next project when a name like his is attached. Maybe the Safdie film is a change in his career, but according to Wikipedia the next project is Moana, a live-action remake of a film whose sequel comes out less than two years prior.

He does have good films on on his filmography in the past just in recent years taste and films well quality has been just meh.. I mean my favourite performance to this day is in Pain & Gain.. to me that proves he does have the potential and has it in him to put on an awards worthy performance and I hope Benny Safdie gets that out of him

The only reason I am interested in the live action Moana film is that Thomas Kail who won the Emmy and Tony for directing the original cast of Hamilton and was Emmy nominated for Fosse/Verdon and has directing Broadway and off Broadway plays is directing the live action Moana film so automatically that's a higher caliber of filmmaker than the ones he's has worked with in recent years.

That is a tossup. I would much rather sit through Red One than Hamilton.

I enjoy a handful of movies he’s in. I’m just saying we haven’t accounted for the potential that he just doesn’t know how to spot a good script

The Rock’s downfall couldn’t be more deserved. He clearly got caught on autopilot, making the same kind of movies, wearing the same Under Armour sweat-wicking shirt, thinking he’ll always make bank and deliver huge box office numbers (and apparently also being an entitled piece of shit behind the scenes).

Compared to the up-and-coming Rock of the 2000s, it’s clear he bought into his ego and got lost in the sauce. “Red One” tanking will be saved by “Moana 2” doing really well and him pivoting to A24 couldn’t be a better, more calculated move.
