I think the latest Daily Show with John Stewart brought up some good points, (sort of as I'm extrapolating / expanding) with how left leaning Twitter accounts and other forms of liberal media have really screwed up representing what the democrats stood for in this election, and how their priorities were ranked. What a lot of Dems actually ran on, and what you would have thought they ran on through the lens of a terminally online / media consuming person, don't align. The right did a great job of cherry picking extreme views (regarding identity politics especially). and convinced the average conservative leaning American that that was THE parties views, and pretty much the ONLY parties views. The economy be damned, they're out their caring about what gender can play what sport.

You know it's true and worked when Trumps first big policy video is about reforming education. He is speaking and confirming to those that felt like the Dems were running on nothing but LGBTQ rights that he is the opposite of that.

That to me is a big challenge - championing social values and change, but tying them into a platform where other policy points sit higher vs letting those things steal the limelight and turn people away.
