I mean yea, this supreme court would shoot down anything that does this. Ideally it would be crafted to something that is similar to libel laws or false advertising so it at least has some legal precedent. It’s an uphill battle, but it’s not like similar laws in other areas don’t exist. I’d rather see something that at least tries to combat this shit than just throw up my hands and say “the courts gonna throw it out, so oh well”

it feels like we are all participating in AI's beta testing phase whether we like it or not, sorta like those self-driving cars that straight up murder anyone not in a crosswalk

I was selling something on eBay, and the app kept pushing me to have AI write the description of it for me, saying it would be much better and that it would sell quicker and for a better price that way. I was feeling lazy, and typing out the description on my phone was frustrating me anyway, so I gave it a shot. it was shit and I ended up having to write it myself.

  3. My biggest gripe with the “eCoNoMy” is that it feels nearly impossible to actually save money. When you factor in mortgage/rent, car payment(s), groceries, possibly other loan payments, there’s never any money left over to save. Or at least not enough to make a material difference down the road.

When I got my new job during the three day orientation class we had to take this girl was in there one day talking about how great AI is and how much she uses it for taxes, learning guitar, etc. She did not make it through her training. (I work in a restaurant at a luxury hotel). Turns out AI can’t make you competent at what is a pretty simple job if you can manage your time well and speak to people nicely

Every year for the past several years, my rent increase has outpaced my annual merit increase at work, and not to sound like a douchebag but I’ve had flawless performance reviews, so it’s not a “try harder” issue. That disparity in itself isn’t sustainable.

I’m 32 with zero dollars in savings. This is extremely bad

I can accept this, even though I love to buy shit I can't afford as much as the next American, but I can't get around the car thing

I drive a beat up old brown station wagon that still has last year's snow tires on it, which are now bald, and even still keeping it on the road and full of gas is tough, but I need it to get to work. the closest commuter rail stations are all 10 miles away from where I live, so even if I try to take the train in to work I still need to get to the station, and my chubby ass can't jog 10 miles

even if I stop buying anything that isn't strictly needed for survival, car expenses still blow us out of the water

Jen Rubin’s commitment to being wrong forever is pretty aspirational for me

I dunno if it's one of those Spectrum things where there is something 99% of society accepts as normal that you think is just the most bizarre thing on the planet, but ever since I reached adulthood I always thought it was extremely weird that the only way it is perceived to get ahead in America society was to indebt yourself to financial institutions. It always struck me as kind of dystopian. I have always had the mindset "financially indebt yourself to nobody"

I dropped out of college because I didn't want to take out student loans. Every used car I ever bought I saved for and bought in full. I never want to take out a mortgage to buy a house, all medical expenses I have had I payed through savings. I only use a credit card to maintain a credit score, and will just make a payment immediately after purchase.

I have had to make sacrifices living like this, but it has worked out pretty ok I think. I save thousands more dollars a year than most people I know.

I always though OKG's videos and the YouTube gimmick stuff was cool and fun, but their music was kinda mediocre and generic.

For what it's worth, you don't have to pay right after purchase, and depending who you ask it actually may be better for credit score to let a statement with a balance generate and then pay it immediately. Most important thing is to never pay a cent of interest. Not a huge deal, if you like how you're doing it keep it up, but I just autopay monthly and find it a lot easier.

Yeah I listened to two of their CDs and they sucked. Their singles are by far their best stuff.

for me at least, this is one of those things that once you start it feels like an insanely fast treadmill that if you fall off of it you die - I understand the concepts behind what you're saying, but so many of these balls are already rolling for me. I am trying to reel some of it in though

  21. Oh yeah I mean I'm very lucky and privileged to have been able to avoid debt, definitely not something everyone can do. But the principle of interest is the devil is a good one to base your finances on, even if it just means when you have to take a loan you make sure you get the best rate.

I get it and I feel for people on the treadmill. Just feel kinda grateful that there is something deep weird in my brain that made me never want to get in the treadmill in the first place lol

Another big moment for me was in my early 20's seeing tons of people with bachelor's degrees and even master's degrees with tons of debt doing the same exact job as me and getting paid the same 30 something thousand a year I was.

From what i can tell, in the last months it has become some sort of running joke in German satire that when talking about the US election a regular annoying German male will always tell you within the first minutes of discussion that a) "did you know America is a deeply divided country?" and b) "in the end, it all comes down to those swing states"

Now that our gov is cooked here and we with 100% will have reelections with will be won by the conservatives, our then new chancellor Merz will look like Mr Burns and i wonder what platitudes the German male will spout..
