Finished Rhythm of War finally. I definitely don’t get a lot of the issues I’ve seen online (not here) about it being mostly about mental issues and not much action. It was definitely less action-packed in the normal sense, but we got a lot of spren and fabrial action. As well as a ton of cool stuff about Stormlight, voidlight, lifelight…all of the lights lol. It didn’t feel like a slog really at all. I am very interested to see how Taravangian/Odium plays out. Already messing with Wit, and apparently seeing ways to win the conflict still. I definitely feel like Adolin took a back seat towards the end, and I’m still curious what in the hell is happening with his trial since they quarantined Kelek. Started Mistborn last night and I am going to try and get through all of those before Wind and Truth comes out in December.

I’d give Rhythm of War a solid 4/5. Lowest so far for me, but I think it’s hurt because it’s being compared to the first three lol

been a solid month for me, read Proven Guilty - Small Favor of Dresden, and a couple of King novels. Am finally picking up Last King of Osten Ard in earnest now that the last book is actually coming out in a couple of weeks. Wish I would've been ready for the release date, but is what it is.

I’m thinking I’m going to finally read my copy of It that I’ve had since the first one came out, after I finish Wind and Truth. Think it will be a good change of pace from the sprint I’ve been doing on the Sanderson stuff.

I'm pretty early in my King journey. Did Revival and am currently reading 'Salem's Lot. Really enjoying them. Appears I really have a lot of bangers to look forward to. Previously had only read The Institute, Pet Sematary, and The Outsider.

Okay friends, it’s that time of year again.

Who’s in for the holiday book exchange?

Let me know by like November 20 if you’re participating and I’ll make the assignments.

I started Dungeon Crawler Carl yesterday and already about halfway thru. This book is incredible. Discworld meets Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy meets Running Man. It's absolutely amazing and if you like reading a like video games or ttrpgs or cats you should read it.

Literally the only reason I started reading this; I was reading Poppy War. Whew. What a changeup.

The urge to not wait for DCC Book 7 audio is growing strong. Part of me feels I could basically act out the main characters at this point in my head because I have Hayes' voice committed to memory, but these books just get elevated to another level with his narration, and I don't want to miss out on that experience for my first read.

in other news, I'm like 60ish% into 11/22/63 and holy hell this book is great. In contention already for top 3 of the year for me.

Lol well I guess DCC wasn't as much as of an escape as I thought considering the theme of a brutal system of oppression from a fascist ruling class but still love this book.

finished Fury of the Gods today, end of a fun ride. Still stand by how I felt after finishing the last one. It's sort of just mindless violence/entertainment, not that that's a bad thing. There was maybe 1-2 chapters in all three books where I actually 'felt' something. It also got a little repetitive when every action scene is written like this:

'She grabbed her axe, snarled at the mail-clad warrior in front of her, then he was swinging low with a seax, the blade missing her ankles, her counter-swing taking him in the neck, blood and bone spraying, then she was spinning away to the next foe, a fair-haired woman with a bearded axe and shield.....'

on and on and on and on lol

Also, spoilers obviously but the only thing that surprised me was Elvar's death. Felt like I was reading Ned Stark's death all over again, just waiting for her to be brought back to life. Kudos to Gwynne for pulling that, one of my complaints was going to be that all 3 main POVs from book 1 lived to the end. Not that they needed to die, but I digress.

Also the gratuitous focus on revenge, where pretty much every single character got their vengeance. Varg killed Brak, Lif killed Guthvarr, Orka killed Drekr, Gunnar killed Biorr, etc etc was also kind of predictable by the end of it

Fun ride over all but more of a palate cleanser than anything. Which I guess I'll need prior to Stormlight 5 next month...

I’m close to halfway through Empire of Silence and I’m really digging it. Something about his writing just speaks to me. Is the series complete? I don’t want to come across spoilers by searching haha.

not quite yet. beginning of the month he said he still had about 100k words left. Already longer than DiW at 290k words and he estimates 400k before edits haha. He said they are targeting late 2025.

One thing that's a bummer about going back to DAW is that I can't buy the eARC direct from Baen, but I'm happy to have a matching set of hardcovers and will take my chance with Netgalley.
