It's funny watching Kamalapologists act like pivoting away from Biden without throwing him under the bus was the most difficult political task ever. As others in here have pointed out it's not that hard to say something like "Look, I'm proud of what Joe and I got done, but we know - and the American people clearly know - that it's far from good enough. So that's why I'm going to . . ."

The hard part was that ellipsis was always going to be filled in by feckless, ineffective neoliberal bullshit.

I mean I know the consultants are who these fucking people listen to, so this is not going to be the message at all, but I do think one takeaway from this is that voters are sick of hearing this consultantified bullshit

obviously trump was blowing a whole lot of smoke up potential voters' asses too, but if you can say one thing about him, it is that he doesn't really listen to consultants and handlers and says and does what he wants

by the end there he was just spewing verbal diarrhea gibberish with like a racist autocratic flair to it and voters were like 'yeah, that sounds better than what she's saying'

Yeah I think it was in South Carolina where they passed some anti-immigrant working restriction law but it had a huge carveout for certain employers. I wish I could find the tweet or an article on it, I saw something a few weeks back on tit.

I am interested to watch what happens with the major political parties. Obviously the republicans are full-MAGA far-right now. The dems have always been more center than left, but if a lot of those never-Trump republicans stay with them and find themselves in power and steering the party, I do feel like that leaves a little crack for an actual left-wing, progressive party to start to build and gain traction.

Dan Osborn who has a more populist economic platform outperformed Harris. He also has the political outsider thing going on as well.

Unfortunately if he had a (D) next to his name I bet he would have lost by 20 points instead of 5 points.

maybe that’s the play in some of these redder states, don’t run a dem and prop up an independent who embraces economic populism

I also completely forgot that Vance was praising Lina Khan towards the end of the campaign and was on Rogan railing on socialized costs and privatized profits by corporations...now they won't govern in a way that helps that but still was messaging it.

they have not been more center left, but will see if they continue to not learn their lesson and steer it ever rightward. probably. hopefully more abandon.

Crazy that the last time the Democratic Party pursued meaningful left wing politics was almost a century ago

After a few days my opinion is that, given the same set of circumstances - a deeply unpopular incumbent, ~100 days to put together an election, running against Trump - I don't think any democrat would have won this election.

The result is, as they say, overdetermined and there are countless things that worked against them winning, some of their own making and some that were just part of the political landscape and it was just never going to work.

Yes, exactly, that's what I'm saying. While they're branded in the media and likely in the eyes of most voters as "the left" the dems are more toward the center than to the left, and seem to be moving ever rightward where they are becoming (if they're not already) a center-right party.

I think this could leave room for an actual leftist party, whether they're as far left as many of us in here would like or not, to start to build a broader coalition.

I was thinking this also, but then I saw the numbers for how close it actually was in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin & Michigan and I'm not so sure

well deportations have been happening under Biden/Harris-Trump-Obama, so i just assume its an increase in that with sensationalist language that imagines massive ethnic cleansing campaigns. i dunno.

I also think that the party not doing any sort of primary made them huff their own farts and not understand where their own party electorate and where the country had moved to. It did not allow them to craft their messaging in a way that meet that and came across as the same ole bullshit (partly because it was).

It shouldn’t have been close at all. It should’ve been a blow out. Donald trump’s political career should’ve been buried after a humiliating defeat. Anything short of that, in my opinion, was always going to be a failure. It’s why 2020 was, largely, a failure.
