Which reminds me…we also of course had bomb ass music in the 2000s where it was suddenly cool and even popular to listen to sappy sad shit and wear hopeless romanticism on your sleeve.

I am fascinated by the idea of what types of music were popular at different times and how much of that is a product of its era vs. how much it drove the era and the long term impacts it has on people’s lives. Like I think about the music that Gen X was listening to and then I think about the music millennials listened to (and we all liked Gen X’s music too!), and it kinda lines up with our disposition as adults now, depending on how you look at it

I remember that being the case in the early 2000s but then by like 2005/6 the tide had shifted around here as it got mainstream.

It’s funny because I have a very distinct memory of hearing girls talk about Dashboard confessional in 9th grade, and TBS for that matter, and then another distinct memory of being at a party between my junior and senior year and tbs and Dashboard playing at the party and large groups of girls and guys singing along to it drunk lol. The tide shifted so much in such a short time it felt like.

I got made fun of for liking pop punk too but mainly because I hung out with crust punk kids that liked Leftover Crack, Choking Victim, Earth Crisis, and shit like that. I was the weird emo kid in a Minus The Bear shirt hanging out with a bunch of dirty unshowered punks with Crass patches.

seemed like everyone around me besides a select few listened to mainstream pop, mainstream rap, or classic rock lol country wasn’t even really that big at the time (now it is HUGE) and I’m in Missouri. I had one friend that made fun of the sappy sad shit I liked but we had very similar taste in metalcore lol

Surprisingly to some people Tampa Bay has always had a strong punk and metal scene so that was always around when I was a teen. St Pete in the 90's/2000's was a fixed gear bike riding dirt bag crust punk kid haven (Gainesville was/is too). The American Death Metal scene was started here.

Death is from near Orlando, but the main scene was centered around Tampa.

Obituary, Morbid Angel, Decide, Monstrosity, Atheist are all from here, and later Cannibal Corpse relocated to Tampa to be closer to the Death Metal scene here.

we didn’t have too many true punk kids like that around here. There were a few, but for the most part the kids that brought the pop punk around first that I remember were the skaters. Some of the skaters were def into that heavier punk, but by then, pop punk and blink had taken over the skater scene completely here (as well as ska). Then girls were bringing the dashboard and tbs. Then pop punk started spreading to all the dudes not just the skaters (thanks, TOYPAJ) and grew from there into the other emo subgenres. I remember getting introduced to BN in 8th grade by a guy friend who was more “preppy” but was good friends with my best friend who was a skater pop punk type kid, and i didn’t get into them at the time, but def remember a lot of the more preppy kids talking about them. All the girls I knew were quoting tbs and Dashboard (among others) in their aim away messages and the skaters were still bringing the blink and others in that more punk vein, etc…once like 2004/5ish hit that’s when it seemed to all kind of break out and all of a sudden everyone was listening to bn and tbs and dashboard and the “new bands” like fallout boy and we had a whole ass Delaware scene that suddenly everyone was going to these shows of these local post hardcore/emo bands and etc.

It really was crazy to go to and be at these shows with all these kids when I remember a couple years prior it was just my skater friends that would go and tell me about them and how grimey they sounded. Now all of a sudden I’m going too and it’s a mixture of skater kids and punks and then preppy kids in there with their 2000s polos and jeans look, etc. all listening to some local band scream lyrics they could barely understand and dance and half mosh around and etc. but then at our school dances, even though everyone was listening to that stuff (minus some of the “cool” preppy dudes that I’m sure thought it was “g*y” even though all their girlfriends listened to it lol), no one would request it at the dances. Just play it at parties. I wasn’t big into TBS at the time but knew a couple of songs and have a vivid memory of being at a friends party and her group of friends playing the entire where you want to be album as they sang along and played beer pong. I think that was the first time I ever got drunk lol

hear me out…Ohio has a special election next year for Vance's seat, which is won by democrats (Sherrod Brown comeback?) so the senate is back to 52-48.

Collins, Murkowski, and Tillis all stick together with voting to block any extreme legislation from getting passed.

Obviously it is never a good idea to rely on anyone in the GOP to do positive things. Collins has no spine. But just hopeful thinking late at night before I sleep
