People's financial situation "staying the same" over a 4-year period is it getting worse.

I maintain that if your real contention is “the economy wasn’t worse under Biden than it was under Trump, and yet Trump didn’t face the same criticisms” then maybe it’s better to talk about how the economy wasn’t good under Trump either rather than to tell people that they feel bad about the economy due to “vibes” and not, say, their inability to start a family or afford a home or get out of debt. You know, the message that took Bernie Sanders from being a no-name back bench Senator in Vermont to a phone-call-from-Obama away from getting into the White House.

I think he should resign and let her play president for the next 2 and a half months.

on the flip side i do have frustration, telling the many people i know who are unemployed or underemployed, that the reason why there is so much unemployment isn't because the "economy bad" tho.

do you REALLY think that it's an either/or between millions being unemployed vs low inflation and that they're not...linked?

Right, but that's been the economic reality in this country for...decades? centuries?...Hell, that was the economic reality in 2019 before Covid hit. And yet, a majority of people thought it was fine in 2019 lol. Trump was hitting mid-high 50s approval ratings on the economy in 2019. There were people complaining about rent then too, in this thread even, especially in big cities, but it wasn't the story on the economy. And wage growth was only half of what it was in 2019 vs 2022/2023.

Once that inflation hit, and prices went up, it didn't matter how many jobs were saved or how much wages went up. The mood was economy=bad. That's gonna create some bad incentives for policy makers in future recessions, IMO.

  19. "Both job offers and job quits rates have dropped to levels typically seen in recessions. Companies are hesitant to hire full-time workers, and employees are reluctant to quit due to job security concerns and an increasing dearth of available opportunities."

If you know anyone looking for a job right now....

the McDonald’s by my condo has been replaced with an immigrant run laundromat, a think piece on how this is a microcosm for the current American dream seems perfect for my first foray into right wing grifting

David, I haven't felt the economy was fine since 2007 when my parents almost lost their house and i saw how much stress it put on my parents. I haven't known anyone who said they think the economy is great probably...ever in my life. Have millennials ever felt the economy was fine in their entire lives?

It would be so funny (well, not really, but you get me) if a recession hit like 2 months into Trump's term, before he even did many tariffs.

I don’t see how you can both understand this and then treat the decision “policymakers” will have to make when the economy crashes (which under our system happens at least once a decade) as an either/or ultimatum.
