I think Negan is a nice change for the show. It allows the show to not be overly serious. I don't Negan was ever supposed to be scary. He was never scary in the comics and was more of a leader that had twisted up morals and a big sense of humor.

He is definitely different for a villainous character. He makes it very obvious that he's trying to intimidate people so they can provide food and supplies for him. He could be a straightforward evil character who kills anyone who disobeys, but it's like he's more interested in playing mind games. He'll kill people at the beginning to establish dominance, and then just fuck with their heads because he still actually needs some people to be alive to be successful.

Exactly. That's why I like his current Vegeta arc in the comic

This is literally the only reason I can possibly imagine for this episode being extended. What a fucking snooze

What 22 minutes would you have cut?

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

Carl holding the gun at that guy is the only part I would cut.

That was the whole reason for taking all the guns though. And I'm sure important in Negan and Carl's relationship. I'm not sure how much of the comic book stuff will happen between those two though.

I was just frustrated at how stupid Carl was to do it.

I would have condensed almost every scene. It was all sooo drawn out.

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

Yeah that episode did not need to be an hour and a half long.

Spencer is a whiny little brat.

Carl is still can't act and his character is extremely frustrating. So combining the two makes it very hard for me to find anything to enjoy about his scenes.

Was wondering if they would incorporate that like from the comic and Negan abusing Rick.

Episode was good IMO. Didn't have trouble with commercials in UK, there was a break every 20mins instead of the usual 15mins! Negan will never get tiring for me - JDM's charisma is infectious and he will always be funny lol. But I don't think there will be many more episodes where he dominates the screentime like the past few eps - they've set up the fact that he is in total control now, and the group will start organising their fightback soon enough.

Comic fans - when is Carl supposed to sneak back to the Saviours' compound and fuck them up with an M16? (sort of, lol)

I'm not sure if it's the ADHD age but I had no problem with the pacing of a show like TWD when it's well acted and written. Enjoyed every minute

Carl sneaks into the back of a Saviors' truck at the end of the episode this Sunday. Episode 7 is when Negan and Carl have their episode together

Oh, I was assuming they wouldn't do the Carl story since we have Daryl prisoner. It seems to me that we are getting our reveals and look at the Saviors through him instead.

    I hope I'm wrong.

It's funny how Carl acts exactly like an agsty teenager in a highschool drama class would, yet is somehow still awful in his role of 'angsty teenager' :crylaugh:
As long as good dialogue is written for him I don't find him as distractingly bad as a lot of you guys do, but he needs to bring his A game for certain upcoming scenes for sure...

For one of the top rated shows on tv "exactly like an angsty teenager in a high school drama class" doesn't really cut it, does it? Lol it's not like he's operating at the max talent level of a teenager.

?!?!?! Check out this guy with his "standards" !!!:-O lol

My point was, for an angsty teenager, he is bad at playing an angsty teenager!

Carl has sold me on certain scenes throughout the series, and then not so much sometimes. I think it's may be due to his dialog and actions being so frustrating. If he were written better, I think it'd help a lot.

That scene in the second season where he is playing with the walker that is stuck in the mud was probably the most frustrating thing I've ever seen. It's like a lot of horror movies, and I don't get it. Why write children and characters in general to be so stupid? lol

Cut him some slack. He started as a little boy. They disnt know how he would turn out. They can't exactly recast him at this point.

I must now go to the source Supporter

I like Jeffrey Dean Morgan a lot. I loved him as The Comedian and found him menacing in the role, which is partly why I'm kind of frustrated with him in this (they're fairly similar archetypes). To be perfectly honest, I'm not a big fan of Negan in the comics anyway. I find him to be grating a lot of the time. He's Kirkman at his little-boys-on-the-playground-first-discovering-curse-words worst. The writing has just never really been funny to me. I want him to go away so badly but the fans love him. I dunno.

Anyway, something about JDM's performance is so distracting to me here. It's one of those things where once I notice it, I can't unnotice it. The cadence with which he delivers certain lines (especially to the public) is always the exact same. I don't even know how to describe it. Starts out a sentence at a measured pace and SUDDENLY SHOUTING AT THE END OF IT IN ITALICS FOR EMPHASIS. Then he does it again. And again. It drives me crazy. His best moments for me are when he gets in close and quiet, invading personal space and seeming to remove himself momentarily of the charade. But then he goes loud and boisterous again and does this weird, awkward strut that makes it seem like less of a personal acting choice and more of a result of wardrobe discomfort. Because that outfit seriously looks uncomfortable, if not entirely impractical. I get that so many of these choices come down to reflecting the comic book in some variation but some things work better in separate mediums.
