That's cool sophos that you'll continue to bring awareness and care about shit like homelessness but you don't live outside and people that do are actually worried about another trump administration. I know a lot of kids that live in your area on the street and know homeless kids and travelers all over the country that are scared.

I remember the day after in 2016 school was so fucking depressing. The students were upset, especially the Latino students.

I don’t know what it’ll be like this year. I have one class that I won’t see tomorrow that has like 8 ELLs in it. It’s almost certain some of them are here under asylum status, and almost certain some of then have family that is undocumented. Most of them barely speak English at all. And they’re gonna be expected to continue on in school and get good grades. So fucking sad for them.

to piggyback on @sophos34 great post, my pitch to everyone in here (and a lot of you have already said you were going to do this, but) please get involved with your community. The election isn't over, there's still a chance she pulls it out in MI/WI/PA, but that doesn't change how you all should proceed from tonight, and every night, which is to get involved in your community. As someone who works in local government, there is always opportunities to serve your community through serving on a board or commission, running for your HOA or metro district board, running for city council, council commissioner, state representative, etc.

It doesn't have to be anything big or flashy or exciting, in fact, take it from me, 90% of the time it's just...fine. If you volunteer for a board or commission, you'll often be interviewed and appointed by your mayor or council and it's much less scary or competitive than it sounds. You're going to vote on things like appropriating funds for EV charging stations at city hall, recommending a name to City Council for a new park, accepting a grant for a new overpass over a local highway, deciding on a new rule for recycling and composting, hosting an event to pass out box fans to seniors without air conditioning, etc. You're going to work with your neighbors who are often a mix of nextdoor karens, weird old retired guys, and some potential new friends!

Let me tell you first hand, you should 100% run for your local elections, too. Doesn't matter if it's school board, metro district, HOA, City Council, County Commissioner, State Representative, etc. Run. Half the people that I've seen run locally over the last decade are much less qualified and intelligent than most people in this thread! I guarantee you people will respond to you wanting to offer a positive vision for your community and a philosophy of reaching out a helping hand to your neighbor. And you'll have volunteers and people that believe in you that will help you campaign and door knock and get out the word. And if you win, you're going to have city/county/state staff that are there to help you do the best job for your constituents and give you the information and analysis and options to make the best decision possible for your community. You won't do it on your own and you'll have help and support whenever you need it.

And if you lose, keep being active. Keep applying for board and commission vacancies, keep running in local elections. Or if you don't like the competitive aspect of serving that way, start volunteering to door knock for others. Volunteer to help recently released persons apply for their state IDs, apply for jobs, get housing assistance. Show up to a trash pickup at your local park. Go to City Council meetings and speak for the things you want to see in your community.

Just please, find something and get active. First, it'll keep you busy and not doomscrolling all day. Second it'll get you to meet your neighbors and build connections and community rather than being alone and scared. Third, and most important, there are thousands of Dylan's out there wishing people like you would show up and be a helpful and positive person in local/county/state government and community.

Yep. Get involved in community groups, show up at protests, start a union. Do something. Don’t just show up to vote once a year or once every four years and then just hope in the meantime, isolated from hundreds of other people just like you out there in your community. Get involved in a struggle that brings you and others closer together.

this was pretty awkward to watch on the network. If that's the case why haven't they called the state for Trump yet? Is there some weird rule preventing them from doing so?

we were told many times in this very thread by a VERY SPECIFIC POSTER that the economy was great and the polls saying people thought they were worse off than 5 years ago were wrong and dumb and just needed to see a chart!

This should be the death of the Democrats 2010s obsession with idpol, but I’m sure they’re going to keep trying to cynically use it.
