one of the bookers from Bonnaroo asked fans if they wanted to guess the headliners for this year. Someone guessed Tracy Chapman and he replied “Not Tracy, but not that far off”, he then deleted the tweet.

lots of people assuming that means Luke Combs is one of the headliners. Yikes….

this bro-country shit needs to stay in its lane, stop bleeding into spaces where your shitty, wildly drunk, homophobic crowds isn’t a good fit.

making day passes available bc they couldn’t hit capacity anymore was a terrible idea, the drunk Nashville crowd this will attract is NOT the roo vibe.

Just imagine all of the bro-country people coming down in droves from Nashville, what a scene

Luke Combs is seemingly a great guy (see the NC benefit concert he threw together in like two weeks), his award circuit for Fast Car was incredibly honoring to Tracy, and his album this year that released on Father's Day was quite stellar.

It might just be me, but I think we're well past the days of when you could categorize a bands genre and lump all the fans together. I was at a metal show the other day and 'I should've been a cowboy' by toby Keith came on. I honestly have never heard that song, but about 80% of the audience did and sang along loudly and my wife was just disgusted and I thought nothing of it. It's a song... not everybody knows or cares to know what the band member thinks, what the other fans think etc. I didn't hear a single bad word uttered by anyone, yet they were apparently all Toby Keith fans as well as metalheads.

I still hate country music but I think the idea that it it's got a common thread of racism / homophobia to it, and that that translates to the behavior of the fans just doesn't ring all that true to me anymore.

Yeah just to be clear, I don’t mind Luke Combs. The two of his shows that i’ve been to have been a pretty rough scene though in terms of the crowd

Idk how good of a metric the music playing over the PA is for the crossover of fans. Arm's Length played Rascal Flatts over the PA before they came on stage on their spring tour and everyone, including me, sang along. But I'm not really sure the same people myself included would be seen at a Rascal Flatts show for the one or two songs we know.

Makes sense and fair point. I however, had NEVER heard I should have been a cowboy in my life so maybe I'm just an outlier and unaware of how popular of a song it was. It came out in 93 and I would have been 6 and living in England so my experience is 99' onwards and I'm confident I've never even heard a snippet of that song in any context whatsoever.

growing up with country music and watching the culture drastically change post 9/11 and seeing the chicks (who were one of my favorite groups and were extremely popular) being canceled has made it impossible for me to even casually enjoy country music without it sounding like a dog whistle for conservative christian politics.

I took my country loving nephew to his first concert (Hardy) and I thought it would be a different crowd then what I head seen from country music since it was also rock adjacent… worst crowd I’ve ever seen in 20 years going to shows.

I like zach bryan and a few country artists but part of me still gets the feeling a lot of country has this made for "real" americans, small town whites. The fact that some country singers see a huge rise in sales after saying something racist makes it even harder to shake.

Country music in the UK has blown up in popularity big time in the last few years, country music acts from the states have been selling out small venues and arenas like it's nothing! I mean Luke Combs sold out 2 nights at the O2, Chris Stapleton just recently completed an sold out UK arena tour, Morgan Wallen sold out his debut UK show at the O2 straight away then sold out hyde park and arenas in Glasgow and Dublin! But other country music acts in general have been touring the UK a lot and the country music fans over here r fucking loving it!!

British country music sounds like something wild.

Instead of songs about their trucks they can sing about how awful it is to be an Arsenal fan.

I grew up in the south & identify as trans, country & bluegrass are a huge part of my past & I hate that I feel like it shouldn't be a part of my future. So big time feel this & you're not alone, but there are plenty of country artists now that are in line with The Chicks' views. Mickey Guyton (black female on Capitol Nashville, currently on a tour sponsored by CMT) released this song in 2020 that was CONVENIENTLY not picked up by country radio at the time. The Morgan Wallens are the loudest voices in that room, but there are plenty of people speaking vocally against all that shit

The Ghost Inside cancelled their fall tour. Using mental health as a reason, but I know the Portland date was selling quite bad as they were offering buy 1 get 1 last week. Pretty sure them not selling/booking too big of venues played a part in the cancellation.
