If I got annoyed / jealous any time y’all spoke about impulsive money decisions that I could never justify or afford… I would be one angry human being lol

 

Anora was great.

the Roku league pass experience is not. Just want to watch the Thunder game and I had to fight to get it to let me and I have no idea how to do it again in the future. the actual stream and everything is fine. But getting to the live portion or playing a finished game is a fucking nightmare

 

My dad got us tickets to the Eagles / Jags game.

I sent him links to perfect seats for under $200 each and he goes and finds worse ones for more money and just buys them without really shopping around that much. He also did not even check to confirm his tickets arrived for like a week (meanwhile I would be anxious af if my tickets weren’t confirmed in my email and my account in 3 minutes lol)

It turned out that purchase was a total scam, dad lost like $600 that StubHub has no record of and won’t get it back for a couple weeks until his bank processes the fraud claim… and today he just immediately goes and buys more tickets lol

I am constantly bewildered by what upper middle class & above people just do on a whim because they can when they actually have enough money to not care about a couple hundred dollars here and there. I have learned an acceptance about it, our lives are just different lol and I can’t possibly understand that level of complacency even though I’m not the most frugal person with what I do make. It’s wasteful yeah but that should show you how much of a fuckin bullshit construct money is more than anything - at a certain extent it’s all relative / perspective oriented, and everybody thinks they’re frugal and everybody thinks they’re broke but spends way more than the next class of people without thinking about it. It’s human nature for your expectations to be shaped by your experiences.

if I lose even $20 it’s not a minor issue lol. I got pretty upset the other day that I broke my $20 bowl and had to buy another one when shit’s already tight when rent & studio expenses are due. To me / on my budget that’s like losing tickets to see Slowdive cause I already am finding it tough to justify spending three figures for me and my partner plus a trip to DC and probably a nice meal

the closest she came to buying me a guitar is when we we were newlyweds and were living in the apartment and she had been saving her “fuck around budget” for months and that idea quickly died when we found out she was pregnant with Milo.

 

I say this with love, I’m not trying to be a dick, but I promise you you make far more impulsive money decisions than beads and I.

And that’s fine, I’m not harping on that or saying you’re doing anything wrong or whatever, but there’s def a reason I’m never posting recruiting people to go to games with me or whatever lol.

Yeah I definitely feel that. I like to spend money on experiences and my music ambition & that’s just my thing. I still don’t have a whole lot though. Like, recording an album has meant I can’t fuckin go to shows cause I can’t afford to take off work and spend what it costs on a night out + tickets and merch. Me recruiting a friend for an NFL game is like a BIG, been planning this all year. Sort of thing. That I put on a credit card and can afford to pay off because it’s busy season at my job lol. I’ve been talking about Jags @ Eagles since the schedule was released

 

Beads was gonna buy it for me as a wedding present in 2022.

I had reconsidered it again when we got $30k above asking and we’re gonna have a little fuck around budget for once, but that deal fell through. The guitar I did try to buy, I was offering $150 for and he sold it to someone else lol.
