one more week. one more week and we can talk for the first time ever, COLLEGE FOOTBALL BRACKETOLOGY BABY.

But one more week. Lets get to November and clear the air first. College football has such a smaller sample size so.

I know ADs and sports people are dumb but i really like the BYE goes to ONLY conference champ winners. That's a great wrinkle because honestly if you didn't have that, then why have the games at all.

And FSU has still not scored more than 21 points in a game this year. The world continues to rejoice.

It's just water cooler talk at this point. With college football there's so many big games left that will adjust everything.

excited for the Big 10 teams to play each other here soon because I’m begging for an excuse to bump Penn State down closer to where their eye test says they should be and I still want to see Indiana play one (1) good team before getting this high on them but it’s getting harder to deny

Penn State will probably fall some this weekend. It's an absolute tragedy for the sport if Drew Allar isn't able to play though.

My thing with Indiana, aside from just looking great all year, is we got a common opponent with Ohio State now. Both played Nebraska back-to-back at home. Ohio State looked dreadful and Indiana absolutely DEMOLISHED them. Indiana had a back-up QB and plays a similar style of football to Ohio State. Indiana ran all over them and Ohio State with their 2 "1st round RBs" and elite OL did fuck all. I'm fully prepared for them to come back down to earth but right now idk, there's only one team I can definitively say is playing better football.

I'm avoiding working for a bit after finishing a huge project and doing this instead. Presenting:

Remaining Games That "Matter" & Playoff Prediction:

Realistically, 25 of the top 26 teams are still alive for the playoff as of today. Missouri could still theoretically win out and finish 10-2, but for purposes of this exercise and keeping Brady Cook’s injury in mind and how they played vs Alabama without him, I’m eliminating them from contention. I'm also making the assumption that all of these teams will be winning their other games (as currently predicted by Vegas), but as well all know, college football is crazy so don't hold me to any of this when someone loses. I'm also making the assumption no 3 loss team makes the field (knowing that depending on conference championships, it could happen but doesn't seem that likely with the current crop of teams).

    SEC:

    Ole Miss @ Arkansas (11/2)
    Georgia @ Ole Miss (11/9)
    Alabama @ LSU (11/9)
    Tennessee @ Georgia (11/16)
    Texas @ Arkansas (11/16)
    Texas @ Texas A&M (11/30)

Two of Ole Miss, Alabama, and LSU will be eliminated come 11/10. It's tough to see Ole Miss beating Georgia and it's tough to see Bama going into Baton Rouge at night if they can't handle a day time kickoff in Neyland for noise. Alabama can win out and be 10-2 if they beat LSU, but as you can see as I go through the conference, I think too many teams will be in the mix for too many 10-2 SEC teams to sneak in. Texas can afford to lose one of these two games. Georgia can also afford to lose one of their two games. Texas A&M can afford to lose to Texas as well. Tennessee can afford to lose at Georgia, but need to return to first 1/3 of the season style points for their other games and play Georgia close.

I included Arkansas as I think they have the best ability to play spoiler for how Ole Miss and Texas play because of how well they matched up against Tennessee running similar offenses. Probably could include Tennessee-Vanderbilt as well, but I know my biases.

    Prediction:

Georgia (11-1 or 10-2), Texas (11-1 or 10-2), Texas A&M (11-1 or 10-2), Tennessee (11-1 or 10-2), and LSU (10-2) remain in the conversation with Alabama and Ole Miss eliminated; winner of Georgia-Tennessee plays winner of T-TA&M for SEC Title. It's legitimately impossible to tell at this point who is going to show up for any of these teams, as all of them look unbeatable when they're actually able to play complementary football... which has yet to be for a whole game for some of them.

    ACC:

    Pitt @ SMU (11/2)
    Clemson @ Pitt (11/16)

Miami should win out comfortably and finish 12-0.

SMU is eliminated if they lose to Pitt. If Pitt beats SMU, the loser of Clemson-Pitt is probably eliminated. If SMU beats Pitt, the loser of Clemson-Pitt is definitely eliminated.

A 12-0 Miami losing to an 12-0/11-1 Pitt or 11-1 Clemson is a nightmare for the other conferences as both teams have to be in.

Prediction: 12-0 Miami loses to 11-1 Clemson in the title game, both get in.

    Big 10:

Ohio State @ Penn State (11/2)
    Indiana @ Ohio State (11/23)

Oregon should win out and finish 12-0.
Illinois should win out and finish 10-2.

The Big 10 expansion gifted some amazing schedules to these teams, but there is definitely some intrigue here now that Ohio State doesn't look invincible. If Drew Allar doesn't play this weekend, it's a damn shame.

If Oregon goes 12-0, Ohio State goes 11-1/10-2, Penn State goes 12-0/11-1, Indiana goes 12-0/11-1, and Illinois goes 10-2, I think Illinois is left on the outside looking in against much more elite looking 10-2 SEC teams, whereas Ohio State should potentially be left out on the same eye test but will sneak in on brand power.

    Big 12:

Kansas State @ Iowa State (11/30)
BYU should win out and finish 12-0.
Colorado should win out and finish 10-2.

There's a scenario here where BYU goes 12-0, Kansas State goes 11-1, and Iowa State goes 11-1 and I don't think you can keep any of them out. But at the same time, I think SEC cannibalization is the real factor on who gets in from here. KState loses at Iowa State and they're eliminated. I don't think Colorado has a chance to get in at 10-2 with how loaded the teams in front of them probably going 10-2 are.

    Other:

    Army @ Notre Dame (11/23)

Army wins this and goes 12-0, I think they might pipe Boise State to that covetated at large bid. It would be a much better win than any Boise State has and their QB is probably joining Jeanty at the Heisman ceremony if he keeps this up. They lose this, they join this list of probable 11-1 teams:

Memphis should win out and finish 11-1.
Boise State should win out and finish 11-1.
Washington State should win out and finish 11-1.

Notre Dame goes 11-1 and they're in. Notre Dame goes 10-2 and it's squeaky bum time.

    Prediction:

    Conference Champs with Byes:
    1) Oregon (13-0)
    2) Texas A&M (12-1)
    3) Miami (13-0)
    4) BYU (13-0)

    Play-in Hosts:
    5) Georgia/Texas/Tennessee (whoever goes 11-1)
    6) Ohio State/Penn State/Indiana (whoever goes 11-1)
    7) Clemson/Pitt (whoever goes 11-1 before the conference title game)
    8) Notre Dame (11-1)

    Play-in Away:
    9) Iowa State (12-1)
    10) Ohio State/Penn State/Indiana (whoever goes 11-1 or the best of the remaining 10-2 Big 10 teams)
    11) Georgia/Texas/Tennessee/LSU (whoever goes 11-1 or the best of the remaining 10-2 SEC teams)
    12) Army or Boise State (12-0/11-1 or 11-1)

If everything *goes as expected*, you're looking at at least three or four near elite teams being excluded. So, as the saying goes, root for chaos.

Best wins of the season thus far for ranking clout (in no particular order) are Notre Dame over Texas A&M, Georgia over Clemson and Texas, Oregon over Ohio State, Tennessee over Alabama, Alabama over Georgia, and Texas A&M over LSU. Feels like a lot of early season marquee matchups (in particular Texas over Michigan and Oklahoma and Tennessee over NC State and Oklahoma) may end up hurting the teams in contention instead of helping them come the end of the season, too.
