Yesterday I checked out Dead Alive and Halloween 3. Honestly, pretty disappointed with both.

With Halloween 3, I feel like its cult following is hyping it up too much. Definitely better than a lot of the Halloween franchise, but I’m doing a marathon of 80s horror and I felt like it was just ok.

Dead Alive has some amazing practical effects, but most of it was too silly. The scene with him and the baby in the park was so irritating lol. The massacre in the house is amazing, but it was tough sitting through the movie up until that point. They also removed it from prime video the day I went to watch it so I had to watch it on YouTube. If/when they release it on 4k, I’ll check it out again.

Looking for any 80s horror recommendations if anyone has any good ones. Return of the living dead, Re-animator, and Scanners have been my favorites. They’re about the level of comedy/camp I like in my horror movies.

agree on Brain Damage too. I’m a substance use therapist at a local SUD outpatient center. Every year I show it for my groups during this month and it’s always a hit.

 

That rat monkey effect was really really good. It's not a great movie, but the over the top silliness added to it imo.

 

Anything else from Stuart Gordon or Brian Yuzna (including Dolls) should scratch that itch, but I also think Dead Alive and Halloween 3 are great, so idk what that says about my recs
