Wow that's awful. Personally if I was there I would've chose PGMG over MCR, but they totally got screwed over with that billing. They were already the underdogs of the lineup being scene-adjacent and never really hitting the commercial highs of the other early aughts bands on the lineup. They should've been earlier in the day and the stage closer should've been Dance Gavin Dance or Movements.

Someone in here mentioned that it was already bad that they overlapped Nada Surf and Pretty Girls Make Graves, as they probably share fandom.

I think Coheed would have made a good stage closer, same as DGD.

Yes, it wouldn't cater to the emo / scene crowd specifically, but it's called 'when we were young' which doesn't imply the genre. I don't know who organizes it beyond livenation, but it'd totally make sense to me to branch out and just make it nostalgia heavy for late 90's / early 00's music. I don't think they care if it's repeat buyers, as long as there are buyers. Many people would drop off without the scene attachment, but would the organizers care if a flood of other people filled the gap and it sold out? not one bit.

I think whatever the lineup is, for me, I'm over the whole one long day setup. It's too many people, too much of a rush to get between acts, too many conflicts, and just overwhelming for me to get enjoyment out of it at this point. 3 years in a row was the very definition of diminishing returns (personally).

I'd rather go to a noon-11 fest at half the cost, with half the sets.

Or saving the $800 I spent on VIP and seeing 10 $50 shows at clubs throughout the year.

Man that’s really sad. Nada Surf and Pretty Girls both got fucked.

PGMG is also playing shows for the first time in… 17 years? That must feel shitty to come back after all this time and play a crowd that small

  5. last year, Lit had a pretty good sized crowd during Green Day's set

I do wonder how was the crowd for Ekkstacy who played right after Lit, couldnt even find a video of it.

I did found a video of Kennyhoopla, who closed the other stage, and the crowd was indeed small but not as bad as I expected

  7. I've never even heard of Ekkstacy so I'm probably biased, but I can't imagine that they'd have much of a crowd AFTER Lit/Green Day.

I agree they're not a very special headliner. They're the "indie" headliner of one of the Riot fest days. Like death cab or postal service.

I'd say Misfits but that's more sick sad world

The Killers may not be as fitting as the previous headliners, but they could work. Mr. Brightside is another one of those 2000s anthems all the outcast kids loved back then (myself included). Plus, them being from Vegas would only help sell the show.

People travel to this fest and The Killers play everywhere (not to mention this is the former Emo kids fest lol). MCR, Paramore, FOB, Green Day and Blink are all basically gods in the scene. There really isn’t any options left unless they want to change genres/audiences entirely

  11. cricketandclover

    Things have changed.

they play Mr. Brightside at emo nights all the time

Happy I went but don't think I would go again. Just way too many people and too long of a day.

That being said....if somehow they were able to get ETID and Circa to get back together and they were only playing at WWWYF...absolutely would go again.

And I was close to the stage when Chiodos played. There was definitely a backing track, and it seemed like Craig wasn't trying to hide the fact that there was one. I do think he was singing as well but relied heavily on the backing track.

It's the same reason Hoobastank played one of those "Not Just A Phase" festivals. To the vast majority of people they don't really care about genre. If something was popular and on the radio at around the same time? It gets lumped together.

And, I mean, are we really saying the Killers aren't aesthetically a fit when 5 Seconds of Summer and Michelle Branch have played? Come on now.

And again: The festival is quite literally named after a song by the band. LOL

This festival has already booked Nada Surf, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Car Seat Headrest, Michelle Branch, Bright Eyes, Death Cab, Kittie, Beach Bunny, etc. I dont think they're afraid of going scene-adjacent. I can totally see The Killers being plausible, especially if they somehow nab a Hot Fuss set.
On that note it wouldn't be too farfetched to get The Strokes too. Could also see them throwing money at The Bravery and The Donnas for one off reunion shows.

Don't forget that the very first WWWY fest was in 2017 and had Morrissey and Descendants headlining, with a bunch of scene bands on the undercard.

Close enough. It's 100% where the impetus for the name came from, though. Pretty easy to read between the lines on that when you consider the line-up for that late 2010's version of the festival.

I do remember when the festival was announced in 2022, a lot of people thought The Killers were playing based solely on the name.

It’d probably be too on the nose for The Killers to play, tbh

Obviously they didn't. But you're kidding yourself if you don't think that's what the fest creators were trying to channel.

John // OC now, OH forever.

Maybe 50-100 people for Ekkstacy, I watched Lit and most people cleared out to catch the rest of Green Day.

wasn't it named after the line in the my chemical romance song, "the kids from yesterday"?

and you only live forever in the lights you make
when we were young we used to say
that you only hear the music when your heart begins to break
now we are the kids from yesterday

which they also closed WWWY year 1 with, both nights

Correct me if I'm wrong, but before last weekend is the last time MCR performed back at the 2022 WWWY? And there's been no whispers or speculations of them planning another tour and/or album?

If that's the case, I feel like they're gonna become the System of a Down of the emo scene. They could probably just headline WWWY every year with no complaints from fans.

I sincerely doubt that was a consideration when the festival was first put together/named...
